intec presents extended test functions for ADSL accesses

Luedenscheid (ots)

The number of DSL accesses is still growing
rapidly. According to the DSL Forum, an international association of
more than 300 companies active in the branch, DSL technology was
already being used by roughly 46.7 million people worldwide by the
summer of 2003 - and the growth was accelerating. High growth rates
can be seen, in particular, in Western Europe. In this region, the
number of DSL accesses increased by nearly 30% (to 12.8 million
subscribers) in the first half of 2003 alone and, with nearly 4
million DSL customers, Germany is clearly in the lead. For intec
GmbH, this trend is reason enough to extend the functionality of
ARGUS DSL testers even further. Consequently, at this year's CeBIT,
intec's presentation will include a number of new test routines for
the ARGUS 43 and 44 ADSL testers, which are mainly intended to assist
in solving problems in professional data networks.
ARGUS 43 and 44: Additional test functions for IP ping
Especially for Internet accesses and data applications, DSL plays
an ever more important role. To answer the resulting demands, intec
has extended the functionality of its optional IP ping function for
the ARGUS 43 and 44 ADSL testers by adding a number of new routines
which provide support in meeting the challenges posed by LANs used
professionally. Among the new features, there is a trace-route
function which displays all of the routers in the network and also
tests the ADSL data throughput under realistic conditions -
downloading files or loading a Web page - with the TFTP and http
protocols. Furthermore, a TCP/IP dump function provides support for
IP protocol analysis. In addition - for test purposes - an ARGUS 43
or 44 can also be used as an ADSL router with a DHCP server to
dynamically assign IP addresses. The tester is thus truly an
all-rounder, which can be used to test all of the interfaces and
equipment associated with a customer's Internet access. It can be
used to replace the PC, the user's network path, the modem or even
the terminal on the IP-level.
The Remote Software, too, has been extended with additional
functions to conveniently control the ARGUS handheld tester from a PC
or notebook. It is now possible to set up ADSL test routines, which
can be downloaded into the tester and then run there at the press of
a button. In addition, you can save multiple profiles in the tester
and then call them up as needed. All of the new functions are, as
usual, available for downloading at www.argus.info.
Furthermore, the ARGUS 43 and 44 provide support for the
measurement of the up- and downstream line parameters with a graphic
display. Depending on the version, they can be used for both
ADSL-over-POTS and ADSL-over-ISDN. While the ARGUS 43 is strictly an
ADSL tester with an optional POTS test telephone function, the ARGUS
44 is a combi-tester that can also be used as a complete ISDN tester,
including D-channel monitoring. When used on a 2-wire interface, it
supports high-impedance monitoring with voltage measurement and HF
detection. As a consequence, with the optional U-interface test
function, the ARGUS 44 supports every currently available customer
interface in a single tester.
Prices:
  • ARGUS 43: from EUR 1,490 plus VAT
  • ARGUS 44: from EUR 2,090 plus VAT
