Cat “on tour:” Circular Paper Packaging Roadshow a Resounding Success for Koehler Paper
- Nationwide campaign in Germany shines a spotlight on the potential behind modern paper packaging
- Discussions with brands and manufacturers highlight the strong relevance of circular packaging solutions
Over 2,000 kilometers, eight stops, and a powerful call for greater circularity: Koehler Paper, a Koehler Group company, has successfully completed the first leg of its ambitious “pack it in paper” promotional tour. With its larger-than-life origami cat, the specialty paper manufacturer drew attention to the advantages of paper-based packaging on-site at companies from the commerce, brand, and industrial sectors.
“The conversations we had during the tour revealed, without a shadow of a doubt, that there is tremendous demand for future-proof packaging solutions. In fact, a lot of companies are currently working hard on figuring out how to design packaging that complies with the law and is recyclable while remaining highly functional. And that’s exactly where paper comes in,” explains Philipp Prechtl, the Chief Strategy Officer at the Koehler Group.
Paper as the Answer to the Needs of Today and Tomorrow
The roadshow started on June 8th at the Koehler Paper production site in the German city of Kehl, where the company makes its flexible packaging paper products. From there, the tour continued across the rest of Germany, taking the origami cat to Ulm, Waldenbuch, Bad Wimpfen, Frankfurt am Main, Schwalbach am Taunus, Leipzig, and Cologne. During these stops, key aspects of modern packaging were at the center of discussions with companies such as Ritter Sport and nucao.
The tour was backed up by an innovative infotainment series on LinkedIn and packs-mit-papier.faz.net. And at each stop, Koehler Paper focused on a select topic, with the choices ranging from product protection all the way to cost considerations, brand impact, and industrial processing. As for the cat with its proverbial many lives, it served as a powerful eye-catching symbol of just how incredibly recyclable paper truly is.
Second Leg of Tour Scheduled to Start in the Fall
The second leg of the promotional tour will be kicking off in northern Germany at the beginning of September. The finale will be the symbolic recycling of the cat in the German town of Greiz, Thuringia, where Koehler Paper has a mill where wastepaper is used to make premium recycled paper from 100% secondary fibers.
