Highlight Communications is extending activities in its "New-Business" segment initially presented November 1999 at the financial analyst conference. With the acquisition of 20% shares of VIDAIR AG with headquarter in Moenchengladbach, Germany Highlight Communications has established a sound basis for technological synergies. The participation and the strategic cooperation with VIDAIR AG will have the same significance for Highlight Communications as the acquisition of the Team Holding AG in 1999.
VIDAIR AG, founded in 1997, is a high-tech enterprise with innovative worldwide patented applications in business segments such as aerospace, defense, security, automotive and communications. VIDAIR supervisory board members include Karl J. Dersch (Consultant to DaimlerChrysler Board), as well as the former German federal transportation minister Matthias Wissmann. The international sales network embraces subsidiaries in the US, Canada, France, and Singapore. The VIDAIR camera systems are of significance in aviation safety relevant air- craft applications for surveillance of onboard incidents. This is particularly important in view of current international debates surrounding new legal regulations to improve flight safety. VIDAIR is currently developing an Image Recorder System that will in the future support a real-time air-to-ground satellite-transmission. The growth potential for VIDAIR camera systems is also significant in the tele-medical segment. The potential for cost savings via remote picture transmission of patients' condition are quite considerable. Highlight Communications "New Business" segment focuses on the fields of live digital transmission, WEB-TV, and multimedia-applications using Highlight Intertechnology proprietary developed compression procedures. With this new strategic participation VIDAIR can use Highlights compression technology to develop new video data compression products for the aerospace and automotive business segments. In parallel Highlight will, as the new cooperations system partner, complement activities in the infotainment sector of VIDAIR's aerospace segment.
On the basis of novel patented communication and safety solutions meeting stringent aerospace requirements VIDAIR is striving market-leadership in the field. The strategic partnership with Highlight Communications offers an excellent chance supplementing product activities in business segment aerospace of VIDAIR. Moreover, the cooperation is an important impulse for the impending IPO plans of VIDAIR. More details regarding the strategic participation and cooperation will be announced during today's annual press conference in Frankfurt.
