euromicron AG: increase in earnings in first six months channeled into restructuring
In the first six months of 2000, euromicron AG increased its sales by 42% from DM 119 million to DM 169 million compared with the same period in 1999. The operating result rose by over 90% to DM 14.5 million, excluding special effects. The announced restructuring measures, which will depress earnings, are of a non-recurring nature and can be financed from internal funds.
Strategic investments amounting to around DM 9 million were made in line with euromicron's program for the future. The disclosed EBT thus amounts to DM 5.5 million (1999: DM 7.5 million).
DM 5 million was invested in the US-based start-up COM/Energy Technologies, Inc. which is active in the Energy Management sector. euromicron also spent DM 4 million on restructuring its subsidiary elkosta GmbH & Co. KG.
Sales in the Fiber Optics Technology business unit in the first half of 2000 increased by 130% compared with 1999 to reach DM 37.6 million. The unit's EBT grew by 19% to DM 4.4 million. The Energy Management business unit's sales rose by 47.8% over 1999 to DM 57.2 million in H1/2000. This represents an increase in EBT of over 100%, exclud- ing the one-time expense for COM/Energy Technologies, Inc. Sales in the Investments business unit rose by more than 15% to DM 74.2 million, and EBT grew by more than 50%, excluding the elkosta GmbH & Co. KG restructuring costs.
