Press Invitation - 4th Component Field Test of SYNERGISE Project in Wangen (CH), 28 Oct 2025

The European SYNERGISE consortium is testing innovative technologies for natural and man-made disaster zones. Robots, drones, advanced sensors, geo-localisation devices and alarm management systems are being trialled in a realistic training environment in Wangen an der Aare, Switzerland.

Tuesday 28 October 2025, Wangen an der Aare, search and rescue training facility of the military, Switzerland: The international research and innovation project SYNERGISE is advancing the testing of new technological solutions designed to strengthen disaster response in both natural and man-made crises. SYNERGISE (A novel integrated SYstem of Systems streNgthening tEchnical and logistical capacities to ensure better Response to emerGencies by synergIStically addrEssing first responders capability gaps) brings together a wide range of tools and systems – including drones, robots, wearables, geo-location devices, and advanced communication technologies. The project’score mission is to improve first responder safety, boost operational effectiveness, and support victim detection in highly demanding and complex emergency environments. As part of its step-by-step testing programme, this marks the fourth component-based field test. During this phase, individual technology components will undergo rigorous evaluation. The purpose is to gather hands-on feedback from end users, define directions for further development, and assess performance in near-realistic conditions. The test scenarios replicate challenging emergency settings, including surface and underground search and rescue operations following an explosion and fire.

About SYNERGISE

16 organisations from 11 countries are working together in the SYNERGISE project under theleadership of the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) to develop a system of systemsthat improves the safety, efficiency, and coordination of first responders while enhancing the abilityto locate and assist missing persons. The responsible partners are collaborating across borders toadvance disaster response capabilities worldwide. The project is jointly funded by the EuropeanUnion’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, the Swiss State Secretariat forEducation, Research and Innovation, the Japan Science and Technology Agency, the Korea Ministryof Science and ICT, and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute of Korea (GA101121321). It started on 1 September 2023 and will run until 28 February 2027.
