Since July 2025, the Koehler Group has been a premium partner of the “Klimapositive Waldwirtschaft” (Climate-Positive Forest Management) working group, once again underscoring its bona fides as a company that is 100% committed to the sustainable and responsible use of forests. The working group currently features around 60 member companies from various industries and focuses on the common goal of shining a stronger spotlight on the positive contribution of sustainable and active forest management to the fight against climate change so as to raise greater public awareness.

A powerful mission for a climate-positive future

The mission behind the “Klimapositive Waldwirtschaft” initiative consists of making the many environmental, economic, and social benefits of sustainable forestry visible. It revolves around topics such as carbon sequestration, soil quality and biodiversity conservation, groundwater security, and the role of forests as habitats, economic drivers, and recreational grounds.

Moreover, there is a special focus on active forest management that uses systematic management, thinning, and timber harvesting to not only stabilize forests, but also improve their diversity. For example, targeted crown thinning allows more light to filter through, promoting the growth of an extremely wide variety of undergrowth plant life. As a result, active management not only helps in the fight against climate change, but also contributes to biodiversity.

Koehler brings in forest-related expertise

As a producer of specialty paper products and an operator of biomass power plants, the Koehler Group is particularly dependent on the sustainable availability of wood resources – both for use as a material and to generate energy. Not surprisingly, closely working with forest landowners is a central pillar of the strategy required within this context. By joining the initiative, the Koehler Group is bringing in its ample experience with the sustainable use of wood and wishes to proactively help shape the challenges and opportunities of our forests’ future as our climate changes.

Sustainable practices as a corporate mission

“Our engagement with the ‘Klimapositive Waldwirtschaft’ working group serves as an expression of how seriously we take our responsibility as a company. Sustainable forestry is not just a key concern for us as a business, but also from an environmental perspective,” explains Frank Andlauer, the Head of the Forest Wood division at Zollikofer, a Koehler Group company. “We want to help shape how forests can be used and protected in this era of climate change – and how we can join forces to create true added value for the environment and our communities.”
