Sysmex officially opens the new campus in Hamburg, setting new standards for future-oriented work environments
Hamburg, Germany, 14 April 2026 – Sysmex has officially opened its new office campus in Hamburg-Alsterdorf, completing the relocation of its EMEA headquarters from Norderstedt to the city. Around 780 employees from the European headquarters, the German affiliate and Research & Development are now working together at the new site, strengthening Hamburg’s position as a key location for life sciences and medical technology.
With the opening, Sysmex brings three key European entities, Sysmex Europe SE, Sysmex Deutschland GmbH and Sysmex R&D Center Europe GmbH, together under one roof for the first time. The campus covers approximately 12,300 square metres of rental space and marks a major milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy in the EMEA region.
The official opening ceremony on 14 April was attended by representatives from politics, business and science. It followed the groundbreaking in June 2022 and the topping-out ceremony in September 2023, concluding a multi-year relocation project and underlining Sysmex’s long-term commitment to Hamburg as a life science and innovation hub.
“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Sysmex in Europe,” said Alain Baverel, CEO of Sysmex Europe SE. “With this campus, we have created an environment that brings people, research and technology closer together. It strengthens our position in the EMEA region and creates the conditions for innovations that will shape the future of laboratory diagnostics.”
Strengthening Hamburg as a life science location
By choosing Hamburg-Alsterdorf, Sysmex is positioning itself near major research institutions and a strong life science ecosystem. The company cites the availability of skilled professionals, excellent infrastructure and Hamburg’s central location in Europe as decisive factors for the move.
“The establishment of Sysmex Europe at this new site is a strong signal for Hamburg as a life science location,” said Dr Melanie Leonhard, Hamburg’s Senator for Economy, Labour and Innovation. “The campus strengthens our medical technology ecosystem, creates highly qualified jobs and demonstrates Hamburg’s attractiveness for international innovation-driven companies.”
Sustainable campus and modern work environment
The campus sets new standards in terms of sustainability and modern workplace design. The building has received the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, underlining Sysmex's commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable construction. Green clinker façades, accessible green roofs and an intelligent energy concept enable the buildings to meet high EU standards.
Inside, flexible spatial concepts based on the activity-based working principle allow employees to choose their workspace according to their task, from quiet focus areas and collaboration zones to highly specialised laboratory environments and training centres.
“Our new campus reflects how we understand modern work,” said Stefanie Schaal, board member of Sysmex Europe. “It combines advanced technical infrastructure with spaces for exchange and collaboration. The location between the airport and the university hospital, and close to the Alster, further enhances its attractiveness for our employees and future talent.”
Designed for collaboration, mobility and growth
In addition to office and laboratory spaces, the campus includes a comprehensive mobility concept with company car-sharing services, extensive bicycle parking facilities and a station for StadtRad directly at the campus. Green courtyards and lounge areas that are designed as informal meeting and relaxation areas support collaboration and everyday working life.
With the new campus, Sysmex not only consolidates its European operations, but also sends a clear signal for sustainable growth, innovation and the importance of modern research and work environments in laboratory diagnostics.
