ERGO Insurance Group and Deutsche Telekom are forming a strategic partnership to set up a virtual financial services marketplace in the Internet. This landmark joint venture sets the stage for new virtual services and online applications for whole new groups of customers. The two companies are thus ushering in a new era in the financial services sector.
The joint venture enables the companies to offer the 40 million Deutsche Telekom customers and 15 million ERGO customers attractive insurance, financial and telecommunications services.
With the expertise and know-how of Deutsche Telekom, ERGO and its four brand-name insurers VICTORIA, Hamburg- Mannheimer, DKV and D.A.S. will now be able to press ahead even more vigorously with the expansion of their online activities. Deutsche Telekom has a wide range of innovative product solutions for Internet business activities. T-Online has 5.3 million customers throughout Europe, making it Europe's largest Internet provider. ERGO intends to become much more strongly involved in e-business and further expand its service leadership via the Internet.
In order to set up and operate a central and neutral platform for e-business applications in the insurance and financial services sector, the partners are preparing concepts for online services in the business- to-consumer and business-to-business segments. The joint venture will be able to draw on experience gained in other joint activities to date. The new marketplace for financial services is to be implemented in the T- Online portals in the very near future.
The joint venture is pursuing the strategy of putting Internet communication to greater use by setting up Web portals for private and business customers. At the same time, the ERGO Insurance Group can make the wide market presence of Germany's largest online service an integral part of its sales strategy.
