CeWe Color, the largest independent European photofinisher, has achieved a significant breakthrough in its market position on their second most important market, the one in France. On 1. February 2001, CeWe Color will take over Konica Photo Service France, thus increasing its market share from 15 % to 20 %. In the business year of 1999, Konica Photo Service France, under the management of Christian Paillot, achieved a turnover of more than 40 million DM with a staff of approximately 200. On peak days, the photo laboratory located in the north of Paris with a production space of more than 2,000 square metres, develops more than 35,000 films and produces more than 100 million photos in a year.
For CeWe Color, France is the largest market after Germany. A total of 57 million inhabitants use just over 120 million films per year. With a total of eight laboratory locations in France, CeWe Color has a market share of approximately 15 % and, besides Fuji, Kodak and Spector, is therefore one of the most important photofinishers on the French market. The takeover of Konica Photo Service France means that CeWe Color is considerably reinforcing its market position. Among the customers of Konica are photo retail stores and hypermarkets such as Fnac, Photo Station, Monoprix and Leclerc. Beside Konica Photo Service France is the market leader in the workforce trade.
Hubert Rothärmel, Chairman of the Board of Management, points out that the takeover of Konica Photo Service France will result in several synergy effects for the CeWe Color Group in the areas of production, logistics, EDP, etc., and that these will have a positive impact on costs and profits. The French amateur photo market is, just like the German one, currently in a phase of expansion. Today photography is more than ever one of the most popular leisure pastimes.
