In line with the expected strong growth - sales already hit 240%, user growth 996% in 2000 - WEB.DE AG expands its Executive team with the nomination of Mr. Hans Wachtel to the Executive Board as of 15 March 2001. As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Wachtel, who brings long standing Internet experience, ideally completes the Executive Board. Together with the Executive team, he will ensure that the company will achieve an accelerated growth. As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Wachtel is responsible for the operative development of WEB.DE AG.
Mr. Wachtel, 46, was the Managing Director of Gruner+Jahr Electronic Media Service GmbH (EMS), a subsidiary of Gruner & Jahr AG & Co. and part of the Bertelsmann Group. He started his career in 1980 in the Research & Development division of Nixdorf Computer AG and since 1983 held different leading positions at Gruner+Jahr AG & Co.
Under the direction of Mr. Wachtel, EMS developed the successful German search engine Fireball - nowadays a key component of Lycos Europe - as well as the successful websites Travel Channel and Computer Channel. Simultaneously, Mr. Wachtel grew the online advertising company EMS AdSales into one of the largest German online advertising marketers.
