Invitation: Policy Report Online Launch Event
Financing the green transition: Increasing bankability, phasing out carbon investments and funding ‘never bankable’ activities
Monday 30.06.2025, 11:00 (CET), via Zoom ( please register here ).
The Witten/Herdecke University and the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW) invite you to the upcoming launch of the policy report entitled “Financing the green transition: Increasing bankability, phasing out carbon investments and funding ‘never bankable’ activities”.
In the report, whose underlying research was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), the authors ask how policymakers can strengthen sustainable and climate-friendly investments – while effectively ending climate-damaging financial flows. They analyze and propose financial policy instruments that pave the way towards the EU’s net-zero GHG-emissions target for 2050, from increasing the bankability of green activities to promoting economically not bankable but societally necessary activities as well as policies phasing out carbon-intensive investments.
The report will be commented on by Silke Stremlau, former chairwoman of the German government’s council for Sustainable Finance. Subsequently, there will be a discussion moderated by Jan Schulte, free journalist and author of various articles on Sustainable Finance (e.g., for Berliner Tagesspiegel, DIE ZEIT and WirtschaftsWoche).
We are very much looking forward to seeing you and discussing the policy report together.
