Tierische Zeiten bei DHL Global Forwarding!

Bonn, 17. Januar 2021: Im Rahmen seines fortwährenden Engagements für Nachhaltigkeit und Tierschutz hat DHL Global Forwarding eine Naturschutzorganisation dabei unterstützt, fünf Löwen und eine Tigerin aus der Gefangenschaft zu befreien. Im Auftrag von Warriors of Wildlife wurden die in der Ukraine geborenen Raubkatzen sicher nach Südafrika gebracht. Insgesamt hat die Non-Profit-Organisation damit 28 Raubkatzen und andere Tiere aus prekärer Haltung in der Ukraine gerettet. Bereits in der Vergangenheit unterstützte DHL Global Forwarding die Umsiedlung mehrerer Braunbären und Pandas sowie jüngst auch den Transport von Kaavan, „dem einsamsten Elefanten der Welt“.
„Um die Reise für unsere besonderen Gäste so angenehm wie nur möglich zu gestalten, kommt es in erster Linie auf fundiertes Fachwissen und ein gut eingespieltes Team an. Unsere ‚Löwen und Falken von DHL‘, wie ich mein Team aus dem Nahen Osten und Afrika gerne nenne, haben die Tiere sicher in ihre neue Heimat gebracht. Im Tierreservat von Warriors of Wildlife sind sie endlich wieder dort, wo sie hingehören – zwei von ihnen haben sogar südafrikanische Eltern. Die Löwen Hercules, Cher, Khaya, Ilana, und der von unserem türkischen Luftfrachtteam auf den Namen Arslan getaufte Löwe sowie die Tigerin Kisa waren insgesamt 72 Stunden mit uns unterwegs. Das war zwar keine leichte Aufgabe, aber eine, die wir gerne und mit viel Herzblut erfüllt haben“, berichtet Amadou Diallo, CEO von DHL Global Forwarding Middle East and Africa.
Die Raubkatzen stammen jeweils aus einem Privatzoo in Czernowitz und einem Zoo in Mykolajiw, im Süden der Ukraine. DHL brachte sie von dort in eine Auffangstation, die vom Leiter der Tierschutzorganisation, Lionel de Lange, persönlich geführt wird. Das Simbonga Game Farm & Sanctuary liegt in der Nähe von Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) in der südafrikanischen Provinz Ostkap. Über den gesamten Zeitraum der Reise wurden die Tiere von Veterinären betreut und überwacht. In der Ukraine wurde das DHL-Team bis zum Abflug von einem lokalen Tierarzt unterstützt. Zusammen mit dem Leiter von Warriors for Wildlife sowie einem weiteren Veterinär ging es für die Katzen am internationalen Flughafen Kiew-Boryspol an Bord einer Frachtmaschine. Nach Ankunft am Flughafen O.R. Tambo in Johannesburg und einem kurzen medizinischen Check traten Tiger und Löwen per LKW dann die letzte Etappe ihrer Reise zur Simbonga Game Farm & Sanctuary an. Hier konnten sich die Raubkatzen erstmal einige Stunden akklimatisieren, bevor sie das erste Mal in ihrem Leben Gras unter ihren Pfoten spürten.
„Der Transport von Raubkatzen stellt immer eine große Herausforderung dar und erfordert die vertrauensvolle Zusammenarbeit aller Beteiligten. Mit einem erfahrenen Logistikpartner wie DHL konnten wir das komplexe Vorhaben reibungslos koordinieren und die Tiere sicher nach Hause bringen. Die Löwen und die Tigerin leben nun in einer artgerechten Umgebung und werden angemessen versorgt“, erklärt Lionel de Lange, Leiter von Warriors of Wildlife und des Simbonga Game Farm & Sanctuary.
Warriors of Wildlife ist eine Non-Profit-Organisation, die sich der Rettung, Umsiedlung und weiteren Pflege von misshandelten und verwahrlosten Wildtieren in Gefangenschaft widmet. Die Organisation wurde 2016 von Lionel de Lange und seiner Frau Anya Masyach gegründet und ist von der Ukraine und Südafrika aus tätig.

- DHL Global Forwarding supports Warriors of Wildlife in rescuing wild cats
- Five lions and one tiger from Ukraine safely transported and found a new home for in South Africa
Bonn, January 17, 2022: DHL Global Forwarding has continued its commitment to supporting wildlife by assisting a conservation organization with the rescue five lions and one tiger from captivity. On behalf of Warriors of Wildlife, the wild cats, all born in Ukraine, were relocated safely to South Africa. Following this transport, the non-profit organization has rescued a total of 28 wild cats and other animals from Ukraine. In the past, DHL Global Forwarding has also helped relocate several brown bears, pandas, and most recently, “the world’s loneliest elephant,” Kaavan.
“To make the journey as pleasant as possible for our special guests, profound expertise and a well-coordinated team are key. Our ‘Lions and Falcons of DHL’, as I like to call our staff, brought the animals safely back to their wild home base. In the sanctuary of Warriors of Wildlife, they are finally back where they belong – two of them have South African parents. The lions Hercules, Cher, Khaya, Ilana, another male lion that was named Arslan by our Turkish Airfreight team, as well as the tiger Kisa, travelled with us for 72 hours. Not an easy job, but one we accepted wholeheartedly," says Amadou Diallo, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding MEA.
The wild cats were kept in a private zoo in Chernivtsi and a zoo in Nikolaev in the south of Ukraine. DHL brought them to a sanctuary run by the head of the wildlife organization Lionel de Lange. The Simbonga Game Farm & Sanctuary is located near Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape, South Africa. Throughout the whole journey the animals were monitored by veterinarian specialists. In Ukraine, the DHL team had the support of a Ukrainian vet until departure. Together with the director of Warriors for Wildlife and another veterinarian they boarded then their flight from Boryspil International Airport to O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. The last leg of their journey the cats travelled via road before they were finally welcomed to their new home.
“Transporting wild cats is always a great challenge and requires the trust and cooperation of all parties involved. With DHL as an experienced animal logistics partner, we were able to manage this complex coordination effort with ease and bring the animals safely back to their home. Now, the lions and the tigress are in the very best environment with the proper care they need,” says Lionel de Lange, Director Warriors of Wildlife and Simbonga Game Farm & Sanctuary.
Warriors of Wildlife is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, relocation and future care of abused and neglected wildlife in captivity. The organization was founded in 2016 by Lionel de Lange and his wife Anya Masyach and operates from Ukraine and South Africa.
