DHL Express baut neues Gateway am Flughafen München
- Investitionsvolumen in Höhe von 70 Millionen Euro

Bonn/München, 23. Juni 2020 DHL Express Deutschland und die Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) haben einen Vertrag über die Realisierung eines neuen Frachtgebäudes am Münchner Airport abgeschlossen. Der Neubau wird auf der Fläche der heutigen Parkplätze P 80 und P 80 West entstehen und eine Bruttogeschossfläche von mehr als 8.000 Quadratmetern umfassen. Erstmals erfolgte die Vertragsunterzeichnung der Partner digital und trug damit den aktuellen Einschränkungen Rechnung. DHL Express plant, errichtet und betreibt das neue Gebäude und pachtet dafür das Grundstück von der FMG. Gegenwärtig verfügt das Unternehmen bereits im bestehenden Frachtzentrum des Münchner Flughafens als Mieter über eine Hallenfläche. Die Inbetriebnahme des eigenen und sechsmal größeren Standortes ist für 2022 geplant.
In den vergangenen Jahren verzeichnete DHL Express an seinem Münchner Gateway einen starken Anstieg der Import- und Exportmenge. "Mit diesem Wachstum konnte das bisherige Gebäude nicht mithalten", erläutert Markus Reckling, Managing Director DHL Express Deutschland, die Notwendigkeit des 70 Millionen Euro schweren Investitionsprojekts. "Nachdem wir im letzten Jahr bereits unser Service Center in Unterschleißheim für 13 Millionen Euro modernisiert und erweitert haben, ist der Neubau unseres Gateways am Flughafen der nächste Schritt des Infrastrukturplans, mit dem wir uns klar zu unserer Präsenz in der Region München bekennen. Auch in der momentan schwierigen wirtschaftlichen Lage investieren wir weiter konsequent in den Service für unsere Kunden, der für uns oberste Priorität hat." Das neue Gateway wird über einen direkten Airside-Zugang und zwei sogenannte PUD-Finger (Pick-up und Delivery) verfügen. An diesen können bis zu 65 Zustellfahrzeuge gleichzeitig abgefertigt werden. Das führt zu einem zeitlichen Vorteil bei Abholung und Zustellung insbesondere für Kunden der Region Landsberg-Ingolstadt.
Zudem wird die neue Station die Sicherheitsanforderungen der Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) erfüllen und die weltweit anerkannte Zertifizierung TAPA Klasse A als höchste Sicherheitsstufe im Lufttransport erhalten.
Flughafenchef Jost Lammers begrüßt die Entscheidung des Express-Dienstleisters, am Flughafen München konsequent auf Wachstum zu setzen: "Das ist gerade in diesen für die Luftfahrt so schwierigen Zeiten ein wichtiges Signal und ein großer Vertrauensbeweis für den Standort München. Das verstärkte Engagement von DHL Express wird unser Profil als Logistikstandort schärfen und erhebliche Impulse für den Luftfrachtverkehr liefern."

Flughafen München GmbH (FMG)
Die 1949 gegründete Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) betreibt den Münchner Flughafen, der am 17. Mai 1992 an seinem heutigen Standort eröffnet wurde. Bonn/Munich, 23 June 2020- DHL Express Germany and the Airport Munich GmbH (FMG) have concluded a contract to build a new freight building at Munich Airport, the only Skytrax Institute certified "5-Star-Airport" in Europe. The construction site at the current parking spots P80 and P80 West will compromise a gross floor area of more than 8,000 square meters. For the first time, the contracts were signed digitally, taking the current restrictions into account. DHL Express plans, constructs and operates the new building on land leased from FMG. Currently, the company has access to the freight center as a tenant of warehouse space. At the start of the operation they owned a six times larger location, in 2022 DHL Express sets a mark for further growth in Europe.
Markus Reckling, Managing Director DHL Express Germany, adds: "After we had modernised and expanded our service center in Unterschleißheim for 13 million euros last year, the new gateway is our next step in realising our infrastructure plan. This is a clear commitment to our presence in the Munich region. Even in economically difficult times we invest thoroughly in our customer service as one of our main priorities."
The new building will include a direct airside access and two so-called PUD fingers for pick-up and delivery where up to 65 delivery vehicles can be dispatched simultaneously. This leads to a time advantage, particularly for clients in the south of Germany. Furthermore, the new station will meet all safety requirements of TAPA, the Transported Asset Protection Association, and will be certified TAPA Class A for the highest security level in air transportation.
Airport chief Jost Lammers appreciates DHL Express' decision to continuously support growth at Munich Airport: "This is an important signal in such difficult times for the air freight industry and a symbol of trust for the location in Munich. The strong engagement of DHL Express will sharpen our profile as a logistics location and set significant impulses for air transports."
