Quickborn (ots Ad hoc-Service) - The comdirect bank group ( WKN 542 800) today announced that it was able to maintain its market leadership despite tougher competition among direct brokers. At year's end, the comdirect group had a total of 577,465 customers (1999: 277,146). Compared to 1999, this represents an increase of more than 300,000 customers. In Germany, comdirect had 575,221 customers, among them 536,951 direct brokerage customers (1999: 226,159).
Order activities have increased correspondingly during the past year. The number of securities orders executed within the comdirect group grew by 6.4 million to 10.3 million at the end of last year, up from 3.9 million orders in 1999. 2.4 million orders were carried out during the fourth quarter 2000. In the German market, a total of 10.2 million securities orders were executed during the past year. Despite a decline in order activities in the second half of 2000, the number of orders carried out per customer went up to 26.8 during the course of the year (1999: 23.1 orders carried out per customer).
Total deposits and custody accounts grew from EUR 8.9 billion as of 31 December 1999 to EUR 10.2 billion as of 31 December 2000 (Germany: EUR 10.1 billion). In Germany, the portfolio volume at year's end 2000 totalled EUR 8.1 billion (1999: EUR 6.8 billion), while the deposit volume amounted to EUR 2.0 billion (1999: EUR 2.1 billion). The portfolio volume as of 31 December 2000 includes a total of EUR 1.1 billion that are invested in funds, bringing the percentage of funds among the portfolio volume up to 13.9% (1999: 10.0%).
The number of employees in Germany grew from 745 to 1,387 during the past 12 months. In Europe, a total of 1,536 people were employed at the comdirect group as of 31 December 2000.
