BRAINPOOL TV AG has stepped up its international activities and
acquired a 51% stake in Gregoire Furrer Productions S.A., Montreux
(GFP). GFP produces live events and TV shows in German, Italian and
French. GFP represents an important bridgehead for BRAINPOOL TV's
international expansion into South-Western Europe. The company has
made inroads into the English-speaking television market only
recently through an investment in RONIN Entertainment, London. The
new subsidiary and its three international comedy festivals
("Festival du Rire" in Montreux, "Züri lacht" in Zurich, "Festival
della Risata" in Locarno) will expand BRAINPOOL TV's own event
operations.In 1999, GFP employed eight people and generated sales of approx. 2 million Swiss francs. The company sells its TV productions to all three Swiss channels as well as to Belgium (RTBF and RTL), Germany (SAT.1), France (Canal+), Canada (Radio Canada), Korea (KBS), Portugal (RTP) and South America (Imagen Satellital). Since 1996, GFP's Paris office has also been the exclusive global manager of Francophone comedians and international stars such as Australia's Rob Spence and the US entertainer Peter Pitofsky. Only recently, GFP produced 40 episodes of a weekly comedy show starring Rob Spence under the title "Rob's Comedy Club" for Swiss channel TV3.
