Koehler Paper is part of the Koehler Group and has been producing a wide range of specialty papers for global use for over 215 years. Recruiting extremely well-trained young talent is the key to the company’s sustained success. Recognizing and raising awareness of outstanding achievements by young scientists is very important to Koehler. With this in mind, this family-owned company presented the Koehler Paper Award at Munich University of Applied Sciences again this year. The prize is awarded for outstanding performances in biopolymer chemistry, biogenic fibers, and surface finishing on the Paper Technology Bachelor’s program, and in minerals, coating, and specialty papers on the Paper Technology Master’s program.

Honoring the Achievements of Today’s Young Generation of Scientists

In the summer semester of 2023, more than 40 students celebrated their graduation from the Paper Technology Bachelor’s program and the Paper Technology Master’s program at Munich University of Applied Sciences. The fact that the proportion of female students graduating from these technical degree programs was higher this year deserves particular mention. Thomas Peter, General Production Manager at Koehler Paper's Kehl site, emphasized: “We are delighted to be able to present the Koehler Paper Award recognizing outstanding achievements by students at Munich University of Applied Sciences again this year. It is our goal to connect with graduates at an early stage and encourage them, and that is why we launched the Koehler Paper Award in 2022.”

This year the Koehler Paper Award was awarded to David Blazevic and Gesa Richter on the Paper Technology Bachelor’s program for outstanding performances in chemical technology, coating, and specialty papers, and finishing top of the class in the subjects of biopolymer chemistry, biogenic fibers, and surface finishing. On the Paper Technology Master’s program, the Koehler Paper Award was presented to Moritz Feßenmayr for outstanding performances in chemical technology, coating, and specialty papers and finishing top of the class in the subjects of minerals, coating, and specialty papers.

Thomas Peter, General Production Manager at Koehler Paper’s Kehl site, congratulated the winning graduates and presented them with their certificates printed on handmade paper from Koehler Paper and EUR 1,000 prize money at a special ceremony held for graduates on July 28, 2023. Once the official proceedings were concluded at the event, the representatives of the company and the graduates used the remaining time for networking.
