- Major milestone for film production and distribution in
Scandinavia - Divestment of shares in Helen Duval Visuals
Beate Uhse Skandinavien AB, Beate Uhse AG's Swedish subsidiary,
and Stockholm-based MAX'S Film Distribution AB, which specialises in
erotic movies, have jointly formed Swedish company, Beate Uhse MAX'S
AB. Under the asset deal, all film rights for videos, DVDs, and the
Internet will be transferred to the joint venture company as of 1
January 2001. Beate Uhse Group and the founding shareholders of MAX'S
Film Distribution AB own 25 and 75 percent of Beate Uhse MAX'S AB
respectively. The deal, which gives Beate Uhse AG access to a further
1,500 film licenses, represents a major milestone in the future
development of the Scandinavian market.
MAX'S Film Distribution AB has been producing and marketing videos
for renting and sale, DVDs, magazines and erotic toys for over 20
years. For a number of years now, the company, which has
traditionally sold its products via retailers and mail-order
catalogues, has also been using e-commerce. MAX'S Film Distribution
AB's extensive sales network focuses on the Danish, Finnish,
Norwegian, Swedish, Polish markets as well as the Baltic states,
covering some 2.200 sales outlets. Exclusive distribution rights to
erotic articles produced by "Private" and "Hustler" in Scandinavia
will allow Beate Uhse MAX'S AB to exploit significant synergy
potential. The newly established joint venture company, Beate Uhse
MAX'S AB, expects to generate sales of DM 16 million in 2001 and an
annual surplus of DM 3 million.
In addition, Beate Uhse Group sold its 66.67% stake in Helen Duval
Visuals back to entrepreneur Helen Duval for the initial purchase
price of DM 720.000. In return, the Group will retain the rights of
use of the "Helen Duval" brand - a strategic move which is
particularly relevant for the future development of the Helen Duval
retail chain in France as well as the joint use of all associated
parts of the company.
