Siemens in the second quarter (January 1 to March 31) of fiscal 2001:
- Comparable net income excluding Infineon (IFX) up 9% - Sales climbed 8% (ex IFX), new orders 17% (ex IFX) - Comparable net income including Infineon down 11%, sales up 8% - For the first six months: Comparable net income (ex IFX) up 17%, sales up 15%
Comparable net income excluding Infineon Technologies AG rose 9% to EUR562 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2001 compared to the prior year. Sales excluding Infineon climbed 8% to EUR19.2 (2000: EUR17.8) billion and new orders 17% to EUR21.9 (2000: EUR18.7) billion. Including Infineon, comparable net income declined 11%, sales and new orders were up 8% and 12%, respectively. Earnings trends varied widely among Siemens' individual operating Groups. Corporate items showed a positive swing compared to the previous fiscal year, which was affected by central charges. For the first half year, Siemens has achieved its goal of earnings growing faster than sales. The Power Generation, Medical Solutions and Transportation Systems Groups showed especially strong growth. However, the company expects an even tougher operating environment in the next months, especially in the Information and Communications area. All the Groups have been directed to take further actions to cope with this environment. Consequently Siemens refrains at the moment from an earnings forecast for the remainder of our fiscal year.
Within the third fiscal quarter, Siemens is transferring up to about 94 million Infineon shares to its off balance sheet domestic pension trust. This transfer would represent a stake in Infineon of up to a maximum of approximately 15%.
