Changes in the supervisory board of Bertelsmann AG
Rolf-E. Breuer and Jürgen Strube appointed

Bertelsmann Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH has appointed two new members to the Supervisory Board effective 1 December 2000. They are:
Dr. Rolf-E. Breuer, Spokesman of the Group Board of Deutsche Bank AG, Frankfurt/Main, and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Strube, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen.
The Supervisory Board is now composed of the following members: Gerd Schulte-Hillen, Hamburg (Chairman), Dr. Dieter Vogel, Düsseldorf (Deputy Chairman). Other members: Dr. Rolf-E. Breuer, Spokesman of the Group Board of Deutsche Bank AG, Frankfurt/Main; Dr. Hugo Bütler, Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director of Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Zurich; Dr. Michael Hoffmann-Becking, Attorney at Law, Düsseldorf; Oswald Lexer, Chairman of the Works Council of Bertelsmann Services Group, Gütersloh; Willi Pfannkuche, Deputy Chairman of Bertelsmann Corporate Works Council, Gütersloh; Erich Ruppik, Chairman of Bertelsmann Corporate Works Council, Gütersloh; Prof. Dr. Jürgen Strube, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen; Dr. Uwe Swientek, Chairman of the Management Representative Committee, Gütersloh; Heinrich Weiss, Chairman of the Management Board of SMS Aktiengesellschaft, Düsseldorf; Bernd Wrede, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hapag-Lloyd, Hamburg. Reinhard Mohn continues to be the Chairman Emeritus of the Supervisory Board.
Dr. h.c. Martin Kohlhaussen and Dr. Ronaldo Schmitz have both retired (both effective 30 November 2000) as has Dr. Mark Wössner (effective 31 October 2000).
The Bertelsmann Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH has had the voting rights of the shareholders - as is known - in the general meeting of Bertelsmann AG since 1 July 1999. The following individuals are partners of the Verwaltungsgesellschaft: Reinhard Mohn (at the same time, Managing Director), Dr. Gunter Thielen (at the same time, Managing Director), Dr. Thomas Middelhoff, Christoph Mohn, Liz Mohn, Erich Ruppik, Gerd Schulte-Hillen and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Strube.
