TeamDrive: Free Data Service for Ukraine Aid

Managing Director Detlef Schmuck: "A protected and eavesdrop-proof IT infrastructure represents the backbone of any well-organized aid effort"

Hamburg/Germany, March 3, 2022 - The Hamburg-based data service provider TeamDrive is now making its cloud service for data exchange available free of charge to all people with a Ukrainian passport, all privately organized Ukraine aid organizations and all aid organizations involved in Ukraine. All that is required, is an informal request to ukraine@teamdrive.com.

"A protected and eavesdrop-proof IT infrastructure represents the backbone of any well-organized aid effort," says TeamDrive CEO Detlef Schmuck. As examples, he cites the coordination of food and aid deliveries, the exchange of pictures and videos to communicate the respective situation on the ground, the establishment of spontaneous aid groups for people who want to get involved, or the provision of accommodation for families from Ukraine arriving in the West.

According to Detlef Schmuck, the TeamDrive service is particularly well suited as an IT backbone in the current conflict situation for two reasons. First, all data is fully encrypted so that it cannot be intercepted by Russian authorities. Second, the service works even when connections are unstable and even temporarily interrupted, automatically resuming transmission as soon as it is possible again. Another advantage is that photos and videos can be saved and transferred directly from a cell phone to the encrypted app without being visible in the album on the device.

The fine print: An informal request by e-mail is all that is needed to use the app. You do not have to give your name, an address or even a means of payment. The free usage license including storage space is initially valid for twelve months. The service complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), so it can be used in a legally compliant manner for personal data, for example to bring people together in groups who want to help each other.

TeamDrive is regarded as "secure sync&share software made in Europe" for storing, synchronizing and sharing data and documents. The foundation is end-to-end encryption, which ensures that only the user themselves can read the data - neither TeamDrive nor any authority in the world can decrypt the data. This technical and legally binding security is appreciated by over 500,000 users and more than 5,500 companies from all sectors, from industries such as healthcare, business and tax consulting to public administration. TeamDrive ensures that all data is stored exclusively on servers in Europe, is not subject to US legislation, unlike US companies, and guarantees compliance with German data protection legislation. TeamDrive supports Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Android and iOS.
