Railpool orders 45 double-deck rail wagons for regional and suburban public transport from Bombardier

Railpool GmbH is continuing to expand its European fleet. The Munich-based leasing company has ordered 45 so-called double-deck rail wagons from Bombardier Transportation, a manufacturer of railway vehicles. The order volume amounts to EUR 75 million. At the same time Railpool has signed a leasing agreement for several years with the Danish state railway company (DSB) for all 45 wagons.
The wagons are designed to travel at up to 160 km/h and will mean a substantial increase in transport capacity in regional and suburban public transport. The wagons are due to be delivered between September and December 2009. "It is part of Railpool GmbH's overall strategy to gain a foothold in the passenger transport sector, too. Together with DSB we have now taken an important step forward in this direction", explained Dr. Walter Breinl, CEO of Railpool.
This is already the second large-volume order Railpool has placed in the only three-month history of the company. In September Railpool had also ordered 58 Bombardier TRAXX locomotives from Bombadier for some EUR 200 million.
Railpool is an asset manager in rail transportation, which was founded in July 2008 as a joint venture between HSH Nordbank and KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH. The aim of the company is to meet the growing demand for rail vehicles from private train operators resulting from the increasing privatization of European rail transportation.
