New high-bay warehouse taken into operation: Einhell deploys state-of-the-art automation technology

On the outside it is one of the highest high-bay warehouses in Germany, but on the inside it is absolutely packed with sensors and automation technology. With state-of-the-art logistics, Einhell has signaled its intent far beyond the region of Landau to respond to the successful Power X-Change strategy and implement new ways to deliver the rapidly rising number of orders to its customers quickly, sustainably – and with environmentally friendly solutions. Einhell’s new landmark building was opened up for business today on Friday, 12 November.
Einhell’s new landmark building offers space for 2.3 million products
Landau an der Isar, November 12, 2021 – The figures alone are already more than impressive. Einhell’s new landmark building was constructed in the space of just ten months in a construction project requiring 2,300 tons of steel. With a height of 43 m, a length of 142 m and a width of 39 m, this translates to 240,000 m3 of enclosed space – or the equivalent of 1134 average apartments in Germany.
But the true size of the Einhell high-bay warehouse only reveals itself when we take a look inside. The state-of-the-art, fully-automated technology manages up to 2.3 million products on over 41,080 Euro pallets – storing them and readying them for dispatch via computer-controlled handling systems featuring twin-mast storage and retrieval machines. What makes this setup so unique is that the products are not sorted into specific areas – instead, the computer assigns storage locations on an apparently random basis throughout the entire high-bay warehouse.
“This offers a number of advantages,” explains Dr. Markus Thannhuber, Chief Technical Officer and member of the board at Einhell: “It allows us to make effective use of the available storage space. In addition, we can respond immediately if a product is in particularly high demand, because the driverless twin-mast units can be operated in all five aisles at the same time. And if maintenance work or servicing need to be carried out in one of the areas, this is not a problem for us either.”
Reducing truck miles – the environment benefits as well
“To meet the growing demand for Power X-Change cordless tools and garden equipment, Einhell would have previously been forced to hire multiple storage locations across the entire region. Thanks to the new high-bay warehouse, we will now be able to save countless truck journeys. The decision to build one of the highest high-bay warehouses in Germany at Einhell's site in Landau with a height of 43 m was also taken for environmental reasons,” explains Dr. Thannhuber. “This reduces the sealed surface area to a minimum. And within the high-bay warehouse itself we save many transport miles, and therefore energy.”
Power X-Change – one of the most innovative rechargeable battery systems on the market
With its Power X-Change strategy, Einhell has set new standards for tools and garden equipment. Every one of the system’s battery packs can now be used in over 200 cordless tools for the home and garden across the platform. Einhell thus offers one of the most comprehensive and most innovative rechargeable battery systems on the market – a range that is impressing more and more customers, and not only in Germany. In 2020, Einhell Germany AG was able to boost turnover from the 2019 figures by 19.6 percent to EUR 724.7 million to deliver the company’s best ever results to date.
The company is planning to further expand the range of Power X-Change devices in the future. By the end of 2025, Einhell’s Power X-Change family of tools for the home and garden is already set to reach the 350 mark.
