WHU Renews BSIS Label with Its Impact on Business and Society
WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management has once again been awarded the prestigious Business School Impact System (BSIS) label following an assessment of the school’s effect on business development and society at its respective locations. To date, WHU, with campuses in Düsseldorf and Vallendar, is the only institution of higher education in Germany to carry this distinction, which it first earned in 2022 and will maintain for at least another three years. The BSIS experts noted that “WHU’s overall business impact is impressive and has led to continuous success and upward movement in the rankings.”
“We’re delighted to once again have received the BSIS label,” says Professor Christian Andres, Dean of WHU. “This recognition underlines the positive influence WHU is having on the economy and on society—whether through the research conducted by our faculty, the efforts made by our students and the diverse set of student clubs (which count 90% of all our bachelor students among their ranks), or the important work of our professional staff. We sincerely thank the BSIS experts for their thoughtful recognition and invaluable recommendations for the future.”
In their report, the BSIS experts emphasize that WHU succeeds in building strong ties with the local business community, fostering talent in a targeted manner, and effectively providing resources, while simultaneously embedding a long-term entrepreneurial approach into its education. They also highlight the fact that WHU’s graduates, thanks to their outstanding education, are highly sought after in the job market, with their impressive career paths reflective of the excellent work performed by the WHU Career Center. The experts further point out that WHU alumni have founded more than 1,000 companies over the past 20 years, generating more than 60,000 jobs in total. This makes WHU the most efficient university in Europe in terms of start-ups founded per €100 million budget.
The school’s societal impact, within the context of the United Nations’ goals on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is also praised in the report. WHU is highly committed to these goals and, as noted by the experts, “it is clear that 100% of WHU students are significantly engaged in the learning of CSR and sustainability concepts, tools and best practices.”
Universities undergo a comprehensive assessment every three years to receive the BSIS certificate. Their impact is analyzed across seven dimensions: finance, education, business development, intellectual and societal aspects, image, and influence on the regional ecosystem. The label is awarded by EFMD Global, an international non-profit organization dedicated to management development, and FNEGE, an institution committed to promoting excellence in management education and research.
