ANDRITZ HYDRO receives major order for pumped
storage plants in Portugal

Graz, March 5, 2009. Electricidade de Portugal (EDP) has awarded the Consortium ANDRITZ HYDRO - ENSULMECI a contract for the supply and erection of the complete electromechanical equipment for two pumped storage power plants for the Baixo Sabor hydropower project. The total contract value is approximately 111 MEUR, thereof approximately 90 MEUR for ANDRITZ HYDRO.
The scope of supply for each of the two hydropower plants includes two reversible pump turbines, motor generators, governors, hydraulic steel structures, automation, and an extensive balance of plant package. For both power plants, separate model tests will be performed in the ANDRITZ HYDRO laboratories in Linz, Austria and Vevey, Switzerland to optimize and adapt the hydraulic design to the specific plant requirements.
Baixo Sabor is the second major project within a very short time that EDP is conducting with ANDRITZ HYDRO under an ambitious program to increase renewable energy utilization. About a year ago, ANDRITZ HYDRO, as a member of the same consortium, received the order for the 193 MW Francis turbine, generator, and secondary equipment for the Bemposta 2 hydropower station.
