DHL übernimmt SDS Rx und stärkt damit seine Kompetenzen im Bereich Life Sciences und Healthcare
- Mit der Übernahme will DHL Supply Chain neue Kundengruppen im Bereich Medizin- und Gesundheitswesen – darunter Apotheken für Pflegeeinrichtungen, Spezial- und Radiopharmazie sowie Gesundheitsnetzwerke – erschließen.
- DHL stärkt damit seine Fähigkeit, der Branche ganzheitliche Logistiklösungen entlang der gesamten Lieferkette bis zur letzten Meile bereitzustellen.

Bonn, 9. September 2025: DHL Supply Chain, weltweit führend in der Kontraktlogistik, will seine Kapazitäten im Bereich Life Sciences & Healthcare mit der Übernahme von SDS Rx weiter ausbauen. Das Unternehmen, das spezialisierte Transporte im Gesundheitswesen übernimmt, beliefert unter anderem Apotheken für Pflegeeinrichtungen, Spezial- und radiopharmazeutische Apotheken, sowie Gesundheitsnetzwerke. Mit der strategischen Übernahme plant DHL sein Portfolio im Bereich Gesundheitslogistik unter dem Dach von DHL Health Logistics zu erweitern und will gleichzeitig seine Position als Anbieter integrierter, zeitkritischer Lösungen entlang der gesamten Lieferkette im Medizin- und Gesundheitswesen stärkenGesG.
SDS Rx wickelt spezialisierte Healthcare-Lieferungen von mehr als 200 Standorten in den USA ab und ergänzt damit das DHL-Transportnetzwerk im Gesundheitswesen um wichtige Services auf der letzten Meile. Mit der Übernahme erweitert DHL zudem sein Angebot an taggleichen (same-day) und Express-Zustellungen für Kunden im Life-Sciences- und Healthcare-Sektor.
„Prognosen zufolge wird der Sektor bis 2030 jährlich um elf Prozent wachsen. Spezialpharmazeutika machen schon heute rund 50 Prozent der gesamten Ausgaben verschreibungspflichtiger Medikamente in den USA aus. Zwischen 2018 und 2022 ist die Zahl der Patientinnen und Patienten, die von Spezialapotheken versorgt werden, entsprechend um zwölf Prozent gestiegen1. Diese wachsende Nachfrage nach spezialisierten Pharma- und Gesundheitslösungen eröffnet DHL vielfältige Chancen, das eigene Logistiknetzwerk, das Fachwissen und den Anspruch an höchste betriebliche Qualität gezielt einzusetzen. Mit dieser Übernahme erweitern wir unsere Kapazitäten in der Medizin- und Gesundheits-Logistik, erschließen ein neues Kundensegment im Gesundheitswesen und stärken unsere Position als verlässlicher Partner für den Aufbau robuster und vernetzter Lieferketten im Gesundheitssektor“, sagt Mark Kunar, CEO von DHL Supply Chain Nordamerika.

Dies ist dann schon die zweite Übernahme im Gesundheitsbereich für DHL Supply Chain im laufenden Jahr. Bereits zu Jahresbeginn hatte DHL Group CryoPDP übernommen – einen führenden Anbieter spezialisierter Kurierdienste für klinische Studien, Biopharmazeutika sowie Zell- und Gentherapien. Beide Zukäufe markieren einen wichtigen Schritt im Rahmen der Strategie 2030. Sie stärken die Kapazitäten von DHL in zentralen Bereichen der Lieferkette – von Pharmazeutika und Verbrauchergesundheit über Tiergesundheit bis hin zu Medizintechnik – und schaffen als Teil von DHL Health Logistics die Grundlage für weiteres gezieltes Wachstum. Mit spezialisierten Kompetenzen im Kühlkettenmanagement und in der Logistik für Spezialpharmazeutika ist DHL dann noch besser auf die komplexen Anforderungen des Gesundheitswesens vorbereitet.

Der Betrieb von SDS Rx wird in das Life-Sciences- und Gesundheitsgeschäft von DHL Supply Chain in Nordamerika integriert. Alle Teams arbeiten aber auch weiterhin unter lokaler Leitung.

- Acquisition will mark second healthcare purchase for DHL in 2025
Bonn, September 9, 2025: DHL Supply Chain, the world’s leading contract logistics provider, is strengthening its life sciences and healthcare (LSHC) capabilities by agreeing to acquire SDS Rx, a provider of final-mile delivery and specialized healthcare transportation for long-term care and specialty pharmacies, radiopharmacies and health system networks.
The strategic acquisition will further expand DHL’s healthcare logistics portfolio under DHL Health Logistics, enhancing the company’s ability to deliver integrated, time-critical solutions across every stage of the LSHC supply chain.
Processing specialized healthcare deliveries from more than 200 locations across the U.S., SDS Rx will add final-mile logistics services to DHL’s healthcare transportation network. The acquisition also expands DHL’s same-day and expedited delivery capabilities for life sciences and healthcare customers.
