JENOPTIK Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH takes on 100 percent of Hommelwerke. The two companies' product ranges complement each other perfectly.
The JENOPTIK AG technology group of Jena, has strengthened its Photonics division strategically. JENOPTIK Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH, the complete Jenoptik subsidiary leading its Photonics business division has taken on 100 percent of all shares of Hommelwerke GmbH, headquartered in Villingen- Schwenningen, in southwestern Germany. On Wednesday, the Jenoptik supervisory board approved the contract which was concluded retroactively to 1 October 1999. The purchase is effective pending the approval of the Federal Monopolies Commission (Anto Trust Commission). Hommelwerke is a leading provider of modern measurement systems and technology for the precision contact measuring of dimensions, shapes, contours and surface qualities. Combined with JENOPTIK Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH's wealth of knowledge in optical non-contact measurement technology, the product ranges of both companies complement each other ideally.
Synergy will make for a competitive advantage.
Many of both companies' main customers are part of the automotive industry. Hommelwerke and JENOPTIK Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH develop, produce and distribute systems to measure parts of engines, machines and gears. The different measuring procedures, with the use of object contact at Hommelwerke, and with the optical non-contact system at Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH, will be used at different stages in the process. Combined, they will be able to carry out more complex measuring tasks than ever before. In addition, both companies will be able to operate as competent system supplier. This is currently required by the automotive industry. Those of Hommelwerke's competitors who make the plunge into optical non-contact measurement technology, often fail due to their shortcomings in the optical technology necessary for this kind of measurements. Working together in the market and pooling their knowledge will allow Hommelwerke and Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH to achieve a rapid and decisive competitive advantage.
