In the first six months of 2000, BRAINPOOL TV AG increased its turnover by 93.6 percent to 38.8 million DM (first six months of 1999: 20.1 million DM). In the first six months alone, the income even outperformed the figures for the whole of the year 1999. By doing so, BRAINPOOL TV managed for the first time since changing to the licensing model, to record a clear positive result after only six months despite the fact that it is traditionally the 4th quarter that yields the most positive effects on turnover and income. Compared to the first six months of 1999, company results (EBIT) rose from -0,1 million DM by to 4.2 million DM. Earnings per share (2.65m shares) reached 0.85 DM in the first six months; some 0.96 DM higher than in the previous year.
All business areas contributed to this growth. This development has been particularly welcome, as there are some traditionally quiet months, i.e. low turnover, during the 2nd as well as the 3rd quarter due to the summer break. The area TV-licenses with the successful start of new formats like "ANKE - Die Comedy-Serie" yielded a positive effect. Turnover achieved via the Internet as a result of commercial marketing of web sites also increased considerably and constituted 4.6 percent of total sales, or 1.8 million DM in the first 6 months of the year 2000. Sales in the area of merchandising and audio products reached 7.0 million DM. The Events division increased its turnover to 5.1 million DM after a successfully completed live tour of the Wochenshow. This equates to 13 percent of total sales.
The BRAINPOOL TV share split will come into effect after closing today. Shareholders will receive 3 bonus shares per share from capital reserves. By doing so, the total number of shares increases by a factor of 4 from 2.65 million to 10.6 million shares from 1 September.
