Plan for a European PR Council on the German Model

Berlin, 10. October 2007 (ots)

In it's September 13 Annual
General Meeting in Paris, CERP (Confederation of European Public
Relations Associations), on a proposal submitted by Ferpi (the
Italian association), approved to form a working group to explore the
feasibility of the creation of a European Council of Public Relations
along the German experience, and to actively promote similar national
organizations amongst its seventeen national members.
This information was given by Toni Muzi Falconi, principal advisor
to the current Chair of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and
Communication Management which represents 62 associations from as
many countries, and of which Cerp is a second tier member, in the
context of his address to participants. Muzi Falconi, a senior
professional operating in Italy, also teaches public relations at
Lumsa University in the Vatican and Global Relations and
Intercultural Communication at New York University.
In his address he focussed on the challenge of socially
responsible public relations in a global environment populated by an
estimated 3 million professionals, only 10% of which belong to a
professional organization.
He praised the German experience in three specific points, which
are unique: a) its interdisciplinary nature; b) its policy to deal
with general interest professional behaviours regardless of whether
protagonists are individuals, organizations; members or not members;
c) the Council's policy to publicize its activities.
As public relations worldwide increases its pervasiveness,
presence and role in all forms of public, social and private
organizations, professional associations are called upon to ensure
responsible practices beyond territorial boundaries and specific
practices; to engage in open dialogue with hard and soft regulators
to foster juridical recognition and harmonized rules of practices
impacting on the public interest; and to ensure that educators and
professionals integrate their respective competencies to ensure that
the increasing number of student graduates access public relations
activities with a very clear view of responsible practice.
