Neuer Markt-listed IVU Traffic Technologies AG (WKN 744 850) and E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH & Co. KG have signed a master agreement on GSM-based positioning. Telematics pioneer IVU will be the first application service provider to offer this low-cost core technology for location- based services nationwide in Germany.
The agreement signed with E-Plus covers the provision of location-based information services using the E-Plus mobile communications network. This alliance between IVU and E-Plus will implement e-logistics and m-business applications, primarily in the B2B segment. The business model that the two companies have negotiated will establish transaction-related revenue structures for application service provider IVU. This will see IVU benefit from the rapid market growth in this area that is being forecast by many experts.
Location-based services give users up-to-the-minute information about a specific location. They are the core component of m- business solutions that merge mobile communications technology and proven IT solutions and tailor them to customer requirements.
The technology to locate a mobile phone in the GSM network that has been developed by IVU represents a quantum leap in reducing the cost of telematics equipment: it eliminates the need for any investment whatsoever in either on-board computers or infrastructure. Positioning and communication are combined in a standard mobile phone unit. To access IVU's location-based services, users need only a standard mobile phone plus a special E-Plus SIM card.
In the m-business sector, IVU will be increasingly positioning itself as a provider of location-based services. GSM positioning is already integrated in IVU's fleet management products. It is also available as an ASP solution that can be integrated with third-party applications through open interfaces. IVU now has plans for additional B2B applications in the form of innovative m-business solutions.
