Ericsson to provide Telephony Softswitch solution to Maxis in Malaysia

Dusseldorf (ots)

Maxis has selected Ericsson's Telephony Softswitch solution as
part of its ongoing wireline network modernization. The contract
includes the deployment of a new international gateway switch and
upgrade of an existing switch, as well as the provision of operations
and maintenance support for five years.
Edward Ying, Chief Operating Officer, Maxis says, "The deployment
of this next generation switching technology will help us accelerate
our network modernisation exercise and enable us to be more efficient
in delivering our services."
"Being Maxis' long-time partner, Ericsson understands our needs
and requirements. With the right solutions and a clear roadmap for a
smooth migration path to the future network, Maxis is able to deliver
the highest quality call experience to our subscribers," he adds. The
solution, to be deployed in March this year, will provide Maxis with
a scalable and flexible platform that will cater for Maxis'
international voice and data traffic growth.
Jan Signell, President of Ericsson South East Asia, says that
Ericsson is proud to be Maxis' partner in this significant project.
"This contract is another proof point of our technology and
architectural leadership. To date, Ericsson is leading the market
with more than 60 fixed and mobile commercially launched softswitch
networks."
Ericsson softswitch solutions, targeting both fixed and mobile
operators, enable voice and data traffic to be carried over IP. The
solutions allow to reduce capital expenditures (Capex) as the
distributed switching architecture enables efficient node
consolidation. The solutions also bring down the operators' Opex due
to the simplified operations and maintenance as well as the network
planning. Business cases around the world have shown core network
Opex savings are of up to 50%.
Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet
communications through its continuous technology leadership.
Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson
is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the
world.

About Ericsson Softswitch Solutions
Ericsson softswitch solutions are commercially proven systems that
provide a low-risk evolution from existing circuit-switched networks
to a telecom quality, IP multimedia service platform. They offer
operators the opportunity to utilize network resources for
next-generation services in the most cost-effective way, while
continuing to profit from classic telephony services. Ericsson
softswitch solutions enable significant savings through the efficient
and flexible layered architecture design. Layered architecture
supports separation and centralization of the sophisticated equipment
responsible for call control and network intelligence, enabling a
reduction in the number and size of main core network sites.
Likewise, the switching equipment is simplified in operation and
design and can be distributed to the edges of the network for maximum
transmission efficiency. State-of- the- art infrastructure minimizes
space and power requirements. Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch solution
supports common core for both 2G and 3G on ATM, TDM and IP
protocols.
