He is taking the place of Harrison Ford to portray a judge who is committed to combating drug traffic. "Traffic" is a joint filmmaking project involving Splendid Medien AG, Cologne, and its subsidiary, Initial Entertainment Group (IEG), Los Angeles, in cooperation with USA Films, the production arm of the American cable network provider, USA Networks, Inc. Klein, CEO of Splendid Medien AG. The budget for the Hollywood production is between 60 and 65 million dollars. "Traffic" is scheduled to go before cameras on April 9, 2000. Douglas will be playing the role of Judge Robert Lewis in "Traffic", a legal man who is trying to put a stop to drug trafficking in the United States. His leading lady is Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role of the drug smuggler, Helena Montoya. Furthermore Dennis Quaid will star in another important role. The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh, who has been at the top of the US cinema charts for several weeks with his film, "Erin Brockovich", starring Julia Roberts. He is also renowned for blockbusters such as the thriller, "Out of Sight", with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez. "Traffic" constitutes another step towards becoming global content provider for Splendid.
