WEB.DE takes over 12.5% of Radio 96 and pushes convergence of
Internet and radio
With immediate effect, Karlsruhe-based WEB.DE AG is taking over
12.5% of Radio 96 Baden Airport GmbH, Rheinmunster, as part of its
investment strategy announced in the course of the IPO. In future,
WEB.DE is increasingly looking at including conventional media within
its Internet portal environment, thus supplementing WEB.DE services
with regional contents. The investment in Radio 96 is a first step
towards this goal. Radio is the most effective Communication-tool on
a regional basis.
The investment in Radio 96 also enables WEB.DE to enter the partly
controlled market of radio and TV stations. This is of special
importance against the backdrop of possible, future Internet Radio
and TV offers. "We are proud of this first investment in regional
media. There is an enormous potential for shaping regional services
together with local media companies, increasing the customer benefit
and, last but not least, opening local advertising markets for
WEB.DE," claims Matthias Hornberger, WEB.DE AG's Board member for
business development.
