Pioneering Heart Surgery and Medical Congresses in Leipzig

The Heart Center Leipzig (Herzzentrum Leipzig) is currently one of the top ten clinics in the world for heart surgery. The US magazine Newsweek compiled the ranking in collaboration with the global opinion research institute Statista. The Heart Center Leipzig provides a wide range of services and covers the diagnostics and treatment of all diseases of the cardiovascular system. With the new type of bypass surgery, the hospital plays a pioneering role. It is no coincidence that Leipzig also regularly hosts medical congresses on all aspects of the heart. In addition to the Cardiovascular Spring Conference in March 2024, the world's most important congress for vascular medicine LINC will be held in Leipzig in May 2024. Leipzig will host the European Congress of Cytology for the second time in June 2024.

Transforming Lives at the Heart Center Leipzig

Around six million people in Germany suffer from coronary heart disease. Their hearts are not supplied with enough oxygen because the blood flow to the heart is disturbed. Bypass surgery, which is traditionally performed on the open heart, can help. This is different at the Heart Center Leipzig. Here, the operation is minimally invasive - gentler and safer for the patient. A small incision in the chest is enough to restore the blood supply to the entire heart and to revascularise it.

Only very few clinics in Germany offer this gentle procedure. The advantages for patients: Possible complications such as strokes and wound healing disorders are avoided. Blood loss and the risk of infection are lower, post-operative discomfort is reduced and healing times are shorter. MICS-CABG is also suitable for patients who were previously considered too risky due to their age or medical history.

"Many satisfied patients benefit from our gentle bypass surgery. We are experienced in it and achieve very good results - both medically and aesthetically. From the outside, it looks like a minor procedure, but it has a major impact on health and quality of life," explains Prof. M. Borger, Chief Physician at the University Clinic for Cardiac Surgery and Medical Director of the Heart Center Leipzig.
