How far has the integration of humans and machines advanced today? And what opportunities does it create? The second season of Ottobock’s podcast Taste of Bionics explores these questions where medical innovation, artificial intelligence, and human experience intersect. The new season is hosted by Sarah de Lagarde, who knows bionics from personal experience. In 2022, she survived a serious accident and has been living with an arm and a leg prosthesis ever since.

“I am 80 percent human and 20 percent technology. This sentence describes how I view bionics: not as an abstract topic of the future, but as part of my everyday life,” says Sarah de Lagarde. “In Taste of Bionics, I speak with people who are pushing the boundaries of technology and inclusion. My goal is to have honest conversations that share knowledge, shift perspectives, and inspire confidence about the future.”

New season, new perspectives.

Sarah de Lagarde embodies the shift in perspective that defines the new season. As a mother, adventurer, international speaker, and user of bionic technology, she combines personal experience with broader societal relevance. While Ranga Yogeshwar brought a scientific and journalistic perspective to the first season, Sarah de Lagarde now places people at the center of the conversation: those who live with bionic technologies, develop them, or research their impact.

She speaks with international experts and thought leaders about current developments at the intersection of humans and machines. Through her work as a Brighter Future Strategist at Janus Henderson Investors, Sarah brings a distinctly future-focused perspective to the podcast. She explores not only what is technologically possible, but also how innovation can help address societal challenges and create new opportunities for future generations.

New episodes will be released every two weeks starting September 2 on all major podcast platforms and on YouTube.

The guests featured in the second season demonstrate the many ways in which the connection between humans and technology is already shaping lives today. Extreme mountaineer Hari Budha Magar shares how, after losing both legs, he became the first person with bilateral above-knee amputations to complete the Seven Summits challenge. AI expert Tram Anh Nguyen discusses how technological innovation can be designed to be more inclusive. Bionics researcher Max Ortiz Catalan provides insights into the next generation of neuro-controlled prostheses and his work in rehabilitating war victims in Ukraine. Rehabilitation scientist Arun Jayaraman explains how robotics, wearable technologies, and artificial intelligence are transforming healthcare.
