LEONINE Studios picks up worldwide distribution rights to international high-profile 6-part thriller series THE SEED (WT)

Munich, 24 May 2022The Global Seed Vault is the backup hard drive of global nutrition and becomes the fascinating backdrop for the 6-part thriller series THE SEED (WT), which is co-produced by Odeon Fiction, ARD Degeto, NRK Norway and MIA Film. LEONINE Studios handles international sales on the English-language thriller, that started shooting on May 10 at spectacular original locations in Spitsbergen (Norway), Munich (Germany) and Prague (Czech Republic).

The thriller series is directed by Alexander Dierbach (“Line of Separation”), Axel Hellstenius and Christian Jeltsch (“Tatort”), who is also creator and head writer, wrote the screenplays. Heino Ferch (“Berlin Station”, “Downfall”, “The Baader Meinhof Complex”) and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (“Westworld”, “Hercules”, “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters”) are starring in the lead roles. Rainer Bock (“Better Call Saul”, “Wonder Woman”, “The White Ribbon”), Jonathan Berlin (“The Forger”, “Criminal: Germany”), Seumas Sargent (“Spy City”, “The Conductor”), Erik Madsen (“Vikings”, “The Last Kingdom”) und Friederike Becht (“Labyrinth of Lies”, “Hannah Arendt”) complete the renowned international cast.

About the series:

German detective Max (Heino Ferch) and Norwegian policewoman Thea (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) set out to find Max's missing nephew Victor (Jonathan Berlin) in Spitsbergen. It soon becomes apparent that his disappearance may be connected to the explosive takeover of a seed company that is the main subject of controversy in Brussels. Thea and Max plunge deeper and deeper into a web of intrigue and political interests that puts not only Victor's but also their own lives in danger.

THE SEED (WT) is a co-production of Odeon Fiction, ARD Degeto, NRK and MIA Film. Service producer on Spitsbergen is PolarX AS. The executives overseeing the project are at ARD Degeto Christoph Pellander, SVP of drama, and Sebastian Lückel, Head of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, with Elisabeth Tangen overseeing for NRK. The producers are Odeon Fiction’s Britta Meyermann (“Spy City”) and Mischa Hofmann (“Kitz”, “Spy City”). Director of photography is Ian Blumers (“Stralsund”, “Wolfsland”). THE SEED (WT) is supported by FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Creative Europe MEDIA of the European Union, the German Motion Picture Fund, and the Czech Tax Incentive.
