Zollikofer and PEG Form Joint Venture for Waste Wood and Biomass Business in Northern Germany
- PEZO Holzverwertung GmbH & Co. KG formed
- PEG brings waste wood business and infrastructure to the table, while Zollikofer provides material flow management know-how
- The goal is to expand business in the north and boost competitiveness in Northern Germany
The Zollikofer Group, a Koehler Group company and the primary supplier for Koehler biomass power plants, will join forces on January 1, 2026, with Peiner Entsorgungsgesellschaft (PEG) to form PEZO Holzverwertung GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture that will take over and continue to develop the latter’s waste wood and biomass business in Northern Germany. This strategic partnership is seeing both companies combine their expertise in order to sustainably expand in this business area and bolster their market position – particularly in regard to waste wood operations.
PEG: Regional service provider with a focus on waste wood
PEG is a well-established waste management company in the German district of Peine, in Lower Saxony. Its strengths revolve around the regional processing and disposal of waste materials, as well as their marketing through a variety of recycling facilities. In addition, PEG offers comprehensive dumpster services for private and business customers and runs a waste wood processing facility at its site in the German village of Stedum, in the municipality of Hohenhameln. Once it has moved its waste wood business to the joint venture, PEG will instead focus on the disposal of all other kinds of waste, as well as on its bulk good trading operations.
Shared goals and synergistic effects
The new joint venture partners plan to restructure PEG’s existing waste wood business and continue to develop it together. The goal is to increase both reach and market penetration in order to take advantage of synergistic effects, with two key objectives being to expand supply operations for biomass power plants in the region and ensure that the Koehler Group biomass power plant in Uetze Dollbergen, Germany is perfectly positioned for the future.
Strategic partnership bolsters waste wood and biomass business in Northern Germany
Zollikofer Group Managing Director Dr. Tilman Rilling highlighted just how important this joint venture is:
“By merging PEG’s waste wood and biomass business, the Zollikofer Group has gained an additional foothold in Northern Germany and significantly improved its strategic foundation in the region. Now, as a medium-sized business, we attach enormous importance to continuity, which is why we’ll be keeping the employees behind PEG’s waste wood operations on board and continue to work with existing suppliers and customers the way they’re used to.” PEG Managing Director David Pfaff is confident that PEG’s regional strength, combined with the Zollikofer Group’s nationwide network, will secure the joint venture’s long-term competitiveness. Dr. Tilman Rilling and David Pfaff will be heading the new joint venture together and look forward to working together.
