Guests at the online event will enjoy an attractive, user-oriented programme with a live streamed conference, virtual expo, and digital networking opportunities

Rapid.Tech 3D 2021 will be an exclusively online event. The decision to go digital was made jointly by Messe Erfurt and the advisory board. Until recently the plan had been for Germany’s longest-standing additive manufacturing (AM) conference to run on a hybrid basis. “The situation with the pandemic means we are still unable to plan for and deliver a live event this summer. We will therefore be giving AM pioneers a digital platform on 22 and 23 June, and bringing together users and providers in a virtual setting. Guests at the online event will enjoy an attractive,user-oriented, sustainability-themed specialist programme showcasing AM solutions across nine industry and technology-specific forums. We are also offering a virtual expo and networking area,” explain Michael Kynast, CEO of Messe Erfurt GmbH, advisory board chairmen Michael Eichmann of Stratasys and Prof. Dr. Gerd Witt of the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Users and providers of additive technologies will present examples of best practice and discuss the latest developments in Automotive & Mobility; Medical & Orthopaedic Technology; Aviation; Software, Processes & Design; and Tool, Model & Mould Making in the conference live stream. New to the programme this year is the AM News forum, which provides a glimpse into the future of additive manufacturing, and highlights processes and tools that go beyond the technologies currently in use but are already well‑suited to practical application. A Rapid.Tech Special will also be held alongside this: the second strand of the conference will focus on innovations from the world of research & development, which will be discussed in the AM Science and AM in Construction Engineering & Architecture forums and the Fraunhofer Specialist Additive Manufacturing Area.

Each day of the conference traditionally opens with a keynote address, but this year an additional keynote speech will conclude the event. On 22 June 2021 Ralf Anderhofstadt and Janis Kretz from Daimler Buses will explain how additive manufacturing has already been integrated into bus production. Volker Thum, CEO of the BDLI (German Aerospace Industries Association) will kick off day two of the conference by exploring why industrial 3D printing is so essential to the climate-neutral aircraft of the future. The closing address on the afternoon of 23 June will focus on a special case study in the aviation industry: Alexander Altmann of Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg will report on the integration of AM technology into producing the Boeing 777X folding wing-tip system using a hydraulic actuator.
