Jenoptik subsidiary M+W Zander acquires50.86 percent of shares in
Lang und Peitler Automation GmbH.

Through the acquisition of 50.86 percent of shares in Lang und
Peitler Automation GmbH, considerable momentum has been added to the
biotechno- logy and pharmaceutical units of M+W Zander, a subsidiary
of the Jenoptik technology group. Lang und Peitler, which is based in
Ludwigshafen/Rhine, is a leading provider of complete solutions in
process and manufacturing automation for the chemical, pharmaceutical
and biotechnology sectors.

Through this acquisition, M+W Zander is broadening its process
expertise in these fields. M+W Zander will also be able to provide
its customers with the complete value chain in the engineering and
construction of new highly complex production facilities. This
includes important process regulation and process control systems for
the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. With the expansion of its
engineering capacities in the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology
sectors, M+W Zander is prepared for further growth there.

The two companies have already been working together intensively
for a number of years - including major projects for which the M+W
Zander subsidiary, Life Sciences Meissner+Wurst currently acts as
general contractor. Pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical
companies number prominently among the customers of Lang and Peitler.
In 1999, Lang und Peitler's 250 employees worked towards sales of
approximately 50 million DM. The company, which was founded in 1986,
maintains eight sites in Germany, and is represented in Poland and
the Czech Republic through its two subsidiaries.
