Ahrensburg, 4 May 2006 - Basler AG, a leading company for Vision
Technology, the technology of artificial vision, has recorded a steep
rise in demand for the first quarter 2006. Whilst first quarter
turnover remained on last year's level and earnings fell slightly,
incoming orders recorded a sharp increase of 25%. The key figures for
Basler at a glance are:
In Mill. Euro Q1/2006 Q1/2005 +/- in %
Turnover 10.1 10.5 -4%
Net Result 0.4 0.7 -43%
Net Earnings per Share 0.11 0.19
Incoming Orders 12.6 10.1 +25%
The Vision Systems business unit (inspection systems for mass
production in a range of industries) continued to profit from
unabated lively demand from the flat screen industry. One of the
signs of the positive new investment climate is the recent award of a
major contract from Taiwan for so-called polarization foils which
line the front and back of every flat screen and are crucial for
their functionality. We are expecting other major contracts from this
industry sector in the coming weeks - in particular orders for
inspection systems for colour filters which ensure quality colour
display on flat screens.
Vision Systems
in Mill. Euro Q1/2006 Q1/2005 +/- in %
Turnover 4.7 7.0 -33%
EBIT -0.5 0.6 -183%
Incoming Orders 7.0 6.8 +3%
The Vision Components business unit (digital camera solutions) has
shown highly satisfactory first quarter development. It particularly
benefited from a steep rise in demand from the semi-conductor and
electronics industries whilst the roll-out of new products broadened
its market share. First quarter turnover, incoming orders and
earnings were all at an all-time high:
Vision Components
in Mill. Euro Q1/2006 Q1/2005 +/- in %
Turnover 5.3 3.5 +51%
EBIT 1.5 0.6 +150%
Incoming Orders 5.6 3.3 +70%
In view of the positive prospects which emerge from the first quarter
results, we are able to reaffirm the growth forecast we made at the
start of the year for overall turnover for 2006 in excess of Euro 50
mill. (2005: Euro 45 mill., +11%) with a net result of over Euro 3
mill. (2005: Euro 2.4 mill., +25%).
