A well-timed update in midnight blue

The classic NOMOS model Tangente has received a new and striking look—further accentuating the innovative inner values of this watch.

GLASHÜTTE, APRIL 7, 2021. The transformation took three years to come to fruition because for Tangente, the classic model from NOMOS, conditions for a design adaptation must be perfect. The watch simply knows its worth and won’t settle for second best. But now it’s ready for something new: Tangente Update in midnight blue. The watch with the completely reimagined date function has received a new look. The classic aesthetic remains but it is now a tick sportier, more striking. The movement with the patented date mechanism can be set both forward and backward; the date display, also patented, has been given a fluorescent green addition. The proportions are typical for NOMOS, elegant and slender: The date watch measures 41 millimeters across and only 7.8 millimeters in height.

The special caliber

The incredibly innovative NOMOS in-house caliber DUW 6101 with a quick-set date function is also known within specialist circles as neomatik caliber with date. With a 35.2-millimeter diameter, it is not only very large but also exceptionally slender—measuring a mere 3.6 millimeters in height. It is therefore perfectly suited for classic watches that fit elegantly under any shirt cuff. DUW 6101 was completely reconstructed in-house and the date was located exactly where it belongs—both traditionally and aesthetically: at the edge of the dial. This is unique for timepieces with a diameter above 40 millimeters and allows for a highly individual and harmonious watch aesthetic. The date can be set both forward and backward quickly and easily, with only a few turns of the crown needed for any adjustment. Despite the limited movement height, this was made possible by a specially shaped gear wheel, which connects with the date disk. The precision of the movement is ensured by the NOMOS swing system, the proprietary escapement denoted by the tempered blue balance spring. Unique to DUW 6101: The gold-plated lettering on the rotor is embossed; and the words “reguliert in 6 Lagen” (adjusted in 6 positions) are engraved in two colors on the bottom plate. This NOMOS caliber is lavishly polished and decorated—a piece of classic Glashütte watchmaking in a 175-year-old tradition, and a rarity today. Uwe Ahrendt, engineer and NOMOS CEO, concludes: “Perhaps at first glance one sees simply a new watch with a date function. But take a second look and you realize that this innovation surpasses anything else available on the market.”
