Campus Hearing Acoustic promotes global knowledge exchange
Lübeck (Germany), 21.07.2026. The International Summer Academy takes place at Campus Hearing Acoustic (Campus Hörakustik) in Lübeck from 20 to 24 July 2026. Professionals from five nations are taking part in order to be able to support people with hearing impairments in their home countries even better in future. They have travelled from Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Slovenia to attend the advanced training and international exchange at the Academy of Hearing Acoustics at Campus Hearing Acoustic in Lübeck.
How does the advanced training in Lübeck help people with hearing impairments worldwide?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 5% of the world’s population – or 430 million people – require rehabilitation to address their disabling hearing loss, including 34 million children. It is estimated that by 2050 over 700 million people – or 1 in every 10 people – will have disabling hearing loss. [1]
“People with hearing loss need trained hearing aid professionals who provide them with hearing systems in a professional manner. Specialist knowledge is required in order to compensate for hearing loss. The opportunities to acquire this expertise are not equally available everywhere in the world,” explains Eberhard Schmidt, President of the German Federal Guild of Hearing Aid Professionals (biha). The hearing aid professional, who is additionally specialised as a paediatric hearing aid professional focusing on children, says: “As a WHO partner, we promote global exchange of knowledge through further training programmes for hearing aid professionals.” The training courses at the Academy of Hearing Acoustics at Campus Hearing Acoustic in Lübeck are recognised worldwide.
What does the international advanced training at the Academy of Hearing Acoustics include?
For more than 15 years, English-language basic and advanced training courses for international professionals have been held at Campus Hearing Acoustic. It is the world’s largest apprenticeship campus for the craft of hearing aid professionals. With its state-of-the-art equipment, it offers the best conditions for practical training at the highest standards. The courses are led by experienced lecturers from the Academy of Hearing Acoustics.
The programme of this year’s international training week of the Academy of Hearing Acoustics covers the fundamentals of hearing system provision. This includes exercises on producing and interpreting audiograms, earmould production, counselling on hearing assistive systems, as well as servicing and maintaining hearing aids. Practical training sessions with hearing system wearers who volunteer as test subjects ensure vivid knowledge transfer. Training is also carried out on high-tech simulators. In addition to learning together, there is sufficient time for the participants to exchange professional expertise and personal experiences. The training concludes with a certificate upon passing the final examination.
This year too, the International Summer Academy is part of the global training and advanced training programme of the Swiss International Hearing Academy (SIHA) of the Sonova Group, which has been a long-standing cooperation partner of the Academy of Hearing Acoustics.

About Campus Hearing Acoustic
The Campus Hearing Acoustic is the central location for training, advanced and continued education in the field of hearing acoustics in Germany. As part of an internationally unique cooperation between the Federal Vocational School for Hearing Aid Professionals (LBS) and the Academy of Hearing Acoustics (afh), hearing aid acousticians from all over Germany have received practical and theoretical training on this campus since 1972. The intermediate, journeymen as well as Master craftsmen preparation courses and exams take place on the campus. The Campus Hearing Acoustic and the dual system of apprenticeship for hearing aid professionals are exemplary worldwide.
