New generation of lift axle valves: ILAS-EP

Haldex is once again a pioneer in the market with an innovative plastic housing

With the Haldex brand, SAF-HOLLAND is driving the development of smart suspension components: In April 2026, Haldex is launching a systematic advancement of an existing product with the new ILAS-EP lift axle valve . The new Integrated Lift Axle System (ILAS) impresses not only with a weight saving plastic housing, but also with a high level of integration capability into existing EBS and TRS systems as well as improved corrosion resistance. It is a solution that will impress trailer OEMs as well as aftermarket customers.

While the product name of the ILAS-EP from Haldex differs from the previous ILAS-E in only a single letter, the technical advancement represents a significant development step. With the ILAS-EP, the subsidiary of SAF-HOLLAND is the first supplier to offer an lift axel valve with a plastic housing. Compared to the die-cast aluminium housing of the previous ILAS-E model, this reduces the weight by around 50 per cent. Siegfried Heer, Senior Commercial Product Manager at Haldex, is convinced: “Haldex has always been a pioneer in the field of air suspension systems and this expectation also applies to the next generation of products. We were the first to launch a plastic air suspension valve. And now we are once again the first supplier to offer the same innovation for raising and lowering valves.”

Easy integration into the Haldex universe

The ILAS-EP is a hidden, yet indispensable component of a trailer. It is a valve that controls the air supply to the air suspension bellows that raise the lift axles of the trailer. When the ILAS-EP is powered, the lifting system is filled with air and the axle is raised. When the power supply is interrupted, the axle is lowered again. The clever aspect of the system is that, when the ILAS-EP is connected to a TRS (trailer roll stability) system or an EBS (electronic braking system) from Haldex, the lift axles can be raised and lowered automatically because the air suspension reacts to weight changes in the trailer.

System impresses with integrated flexibility

Flexibility was the top priority in the development of the new Haldex lift axle valve. The ILAS-EP can be connected to any EBS or ABS systems, even if they are from other manufacturers. It can be flexibly adapted to various applications while still offering the same performance and range of functions. Different alignments and variants are available for the different platforms. Depending on the customer requirements, Haldex offers versions with four, six or seven connectors for directly connecting to the air suspension bellows and other variants with different alignments of the solenoid valve connection, as well as 12-V and 24-V versions.

Haldex once again a pioneer in the market

The subsidiary of SAF-HOLLAND is planning to gradually replace the older ILAS-E and ILAS-E+ versions with the new EP version and is certain that this hidden, but indispensable trailer component will prove itself with its combination of innovation, flexible design and added value. “The new ILAS-EP is the optimal product for the next generation of our product range. We are convinced that it will meet all expectations,” says Heer.
