dena will present outstanding competition entries in four different categories with the 2024 Energy Efficiency Award. In addition, a special prize of 5,000 euros will be awarded to a small or medium-sized company. Both the nominees and the award winners have the honour of bearing the EEA seal and will be publicly recognised at an award ceremony at the dena Energy Transition Congress in Berlin on 11 November.

Companies of all sizes and from all sectors in Germany and abroad have time until 7 June 2024 to apply for the Energy Efficiency Award ( www.energyefficiencyaward.de). Participation is possible in four competition categories:

  1. Think Big! Complex energy transition projects: This category calls for systemic thinking and integrated solutions for the energy transition. Applications can include measures to save primary energy and to optimise the overall system, including projects in which a large number of measures have been coordinated.
  2. From clever to digital! The broad spectrum of energy efficiency: In this category, companies can submit projects that demonstrate an increase in energy efficiency through digitalisation, control and regulation technology, energy-efficient cross-sectional technologies or software solutions for energy controlling and management.
  3. Achieving more together! Energy services as an enabler of the energy transition: This category recognises energy efficiency or energy transition projects in which there is a focus on good cooperation. The contribution of the energy service provider can lie in the design and financing of a highly efficient system or energy efficiency-enhancing operational management, for example.
  4. Moving forward! Concepts for a climate-neutral future: In this category, companies can submit their concepts that demonstrate how the path to climate neutrality and the transformation of industry can succeed based on a concrete example of implementation.

About the Energy Efficiency Award

The Energy Efficiency Award (EEA) is a showcase of tangible successes for the energy transition and climate protection. The German Energy Agency (dena) has been giving out the award since 2007, and it is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz, BMWK). Since then, more than 1,500 companies have submitted entries. The examples demonstrate how we can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and alleviate the threat of price increases.
