Bahrain/Dubai/Bonn, 12. Mai 2026: DHL Express, der weltweit führende Anbieter für internationale Expresslogistik, und der in Dubai ansässige Entwickler von nachhaltigen Flugkraftstoffen der nächsten Generation SAF One haben heute die Unterzeichnung eines richtungsweisenden Abnahmevertrags bekannt gegeben. Damit wird die erste Produktionsanlage für nachhaltigen Flugkraftstoff (SAF) im Nahen Osten in das globale SAF-Versorgungsnetz von DHL integriert. Im Rahmen der Vereinbarung und als wichtiger Kunde der Anlage erhält DHL Express langfristigen Zugang zu jährlich 25.000 Tonnen unvermischtem (reinem) SAF – insgesamt 250.000 Tonnen über eine Laufzeit von zehn Jahren ab Produktionsbeginn, der für 2028 geplant ist. Das SAF wird in der Hauptanlage von SAF One in Bahrain produziert und ermöglicht messbare CO₂e-Reduktionen über den gesamten Lebenszyklus hinweg im regionalen und interkontinentalen Luftfrachtnetz von DHL. Gleichzeitig unterstützt dies das Ziel von DHL, den Einsatz nachhaltiger Flugkraftstoffe bis 2030 auf 30 Prozent zu erhöhen.

Die Produktionsanlage von SAF One in Bahrain zählt zu den fortschrittlichsten SAF-Anlagen der Region. Sie nutzt erneuerbare Rohstoffe und Technologien der nächsten Generation, um hochwertigen, skalierbaren und zertifizierten nachhaltigen Flugkraftstoff zu produzieren. Der langfristige Abnahmevertrag mit DHL Express schafft wichtige Nachfrage- und Marktsicherheit und unterstützt den weiteren Ausbau der Infrastruktur für erneuerbare Energien im Nahen Osten.
Die Partnerschaft mit SAF One unterstreicht die Strategie von DHL Express, eng mit führenden SAF-Produzenten weltweit zusammenzuarbeiten, um verlässlichen und langfristigen Zugang zu nachhaltigen Kraftstoffen zu sichern. Der im Rahmen dieser Vereinbarung gelieferte SAF wird global über ein geprüftes „Book-and-Claim“-Modell zugeordnet. Dadurch können Kunden ihre Scope-3-Emissionen reduzieren, auch wenn ihre Sendungen auf nicht direkt mit SAF betriebenen Flügen transportiert werden.
Um diese Emissionsreduktionen transparent an Kunden weiterzugeben, integriert DHL die SAF-Mengen in sein Dekarbonisierungsangebot über GoGreen Plus. Die GoGreen-Plus-Produkte von DHL bieten emissionsreduzierte Lösungen über die Kernservices hinweg durch den Einsatz nachhaltiger Kraftstoffe und CO₂-armer Technologien. Die Produkte basieren auf echter Dekarbonisierung entlang der gesamten Wertschöpfungskette, ermöglicht durch den „Book-and-Claim“-Ansatz. Dieser erlaubt es DHL, fossile Kraftstoffe im eigenen Netzwerk durch nachhaltigere Alternativen zu ersetzen und die Umweltvorteile Kunden zuzuweisen, auch wenn deren Sendungen nicht physisch mit diesen Transportmitteln befördert werden. GoGreen Plus ermöglicht es Kunden, indirekte Scope-3-Emissionen aus vor- und nachgelagerten Transport- und Distributionsprozessen zu reduzieren und unterstützt zugleich freiwillige Treibhausgasberichterstattung sowie Fortschritte bei eigenen Dekarbonisierungszielen.

DHL Express signs Bahrain SAF offtake-agreement with SAF One

Bahrain/Dubai/Bonn, May 12, 2026: DHL Express, the world’s leading international express logistics provider, and Dubai-based next generation SAF developer SAF One today announced the signing of a landmark offtake agreement, bringing the first sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in the Middle East into DHL’s global SAF supply network. Under the agreement and as a key customer for the facility, DHL Express will receive long term access to 25,000 metric tons of unblended (neat) SAF per year — a total of 250,000 metric tons over a ten-year term from start of production, planned from 2028. The SAF will be produced at SAF One’s flagship plant in Bahrain, enabling measurable lifecycle CO₂e reductions across DHL’s regional and intercontinental air network, and support DHL’s aim to increase the use of sustainable aviation fuels to 30 percent by 2030.

The SAF One production facility in Bahrain represents one of the most advanced SAF plants in the region, utilizing renewable feedstocks and next generation refining technologies designed to deliver high quality, scalable, and certified sustainable aviation fuel. DHL Express’ long-term offtake agreement provides crucial demand market stability and supports the continued growth of clean energy infrastructure across the Middle East.
The partnership with SAF One reinforces DHL Express’ strategy to collaborate closely with leading SAF producers worldwide to secure reliable, long-term access to sustainable fuels. The SAF supplied under this agreement will be allocated globally through a verified book and claim model, enabling customers to reduce Scope 3 emissions even on routes not directly fueled with SAF.
To ensure these emission reductions are transparently delivered to customers, DHL integrates the SAF volumes into its decarbonization offering through GoGreen Plus. DHL’s GoGreen Plus products provide decarbonized solutions across its core offerings by leveraging sustainable fuels and low carbon technologies. The products are based on true value chain decarbonization enabled by the “book and claim” approach. Book and claim allows DHL to directly replace fossil fuels with sustainable fuels within its network and allocate the environmental benefits to paying customers, even when their shipments are not physically transported using assets powered by these fuels. GoGreen Plus enables customers to reduce indirect Scope 3 emissions arising from upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, while also supporting voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting and progress against their decarbonization targets.
