Italian artist Enrico Mazzone has just hit a significant milestone in his extraordinary art project: The first 250 meters of his one-kilometer-long drawing are done. In order to continue his project, Mazzone is now receiving another delivery of premium Koehler Eco® Black Greenium recycled paper from Koehler Paper.

Koehler Eco® Black enables artwork to take center stage

The large-scale artwork, which Mazzone has been working on for several years now, is one of the most ambitious drawing projects in the world. He is depicting the Book of Revelation on paper with a total length of one kilometer. But that is not the only thing that is unique: Enrico Mazzone draws with a style all of his own in which he uses pencils to draw thousands of small points extremely close to each other so that areas are completely filled. Both the complexity of this technique and the artwork’s colossal size have led Mazzone to decide to complete the whole thing in four different sections. And on each one of them, the matt jet black surface of Koehler Eco® Black serves as a foundation for large-scale renderings that arise from a combination of fine engraving and white drawings, creating a one-of-a-kind three-dimensional effect.

“Koehler Eco® Black gives me the exact contrast and texture I need for my technique. To tell you the truth, my work wouldn’t have the same effect without this paper,” Mazzone explains. “The fact that Koehler has sponsored my work once again is tremendously motivating and will drive me to focus relentlessly on moving this project forward.”

Koehler Paper redoubles commitment to art and sustainability

“We’re delighted to once again be able to help Enrico Mazzone with his extraordinary art project. With Koehler Eco® Black, we’re providing paper that is not only made of 100% secondary fibers and has been awarded the “Blue Angel” eco-label, but also provides artists with completely new possibilities for expressing their creativity. In fact, Mazzone’s work is a striking example of how a material and an artistic vision can meld into each other and become inseparable,” says Udo Hollbach, Managing Director of the Koehler Paper Greiz mill.

With the paper delivered to him, Mazzone will continue to work on his stunning one‑kilometer artwork, which has already drawn international attention. The piece is expected to be completed in the coming years – accompanied by exhibitions, insights into how the artwork emerged, and collaborative partnerships with cultural institutions.
