The purpose of the briefing is to provide you with a detailed overview of the audit, and to put its conclusions and recommendations into context. It will also give you a chance to discuss the report with ECA Member Bettina Jakobsen and representatives of the audit team.
RSVP: Please let us know by 1.00 p.m. on Tuesday 18 November whether you intend to take part in the virtual briefing; we will then send you detailed instructions on how to connect.

Background information
Fighting hunger is a core objective of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and the European Union has committed to supporting this mission. This engagement is backed by substantial funding: between 2014 and 2020, the EU signed contracts worth €17 billion for hunger-relief initiatives worldwide, followed by a further €6.2 billion from 2021 to 2024. Nearly half of this funding – over €11 billion – went to Sub-Saharan Africa. This financial commitment has made the EU one of the largest global donors in the fight against hunger.
The audit focused on development cooperation actions addressing food security, sustainable aquatic and agri-food systems, and nutrition. The audit consisted of on-the-spot visits to Ethiopia, Kenya and Zambia, desk reviews for Chad, Niger and South Sudan, interviews with relevant stakeholders, and analysis of documents for all countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
