ots-Eilmeldung: Trend Micro: MYTOB On The March Again
Unterschleißheim (ots) - 14.10.05. Wir stellen Ihnen im Original eine Virenwarnung zur Verfügung, die wir von unserem North American Corporate Headquarter in Cupertino, Ca. erhalten haben:
Trend Micro, Inc (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC) Researchers at antivirus and content security firm Trend Micro have found a new MYTOB variant, WORM_MYTOB.LL, spreading in the wild. Citing 8 new MYTOB variants to reach the wild in the past 7 days, some experts believe that this attack may be signalling a re- emergence of the MYTOB family.
Though WORM_MYTOB.LL appears to be a relatively contained attack, David Kopp, Senior AV Research Manager for TrendLabs Europe, recommends that its prudent for all users to remain vigilant. As weve seen with previous malware such as ZOTOB, RBOT, and other prolific worm families, MYTOB.LL may well pave the way for future attacks" says Kopp. MYTOB.LL lowers the Internet Explorer registry settings for the Security or Trusted Zones, which can make the computer more vulnerable to future attacks. Kopp also added that every infection this variant achieves also strengthens an already robust underlying bot network utilized by the MYTOB family.
Security experts at Trend Micro recommend that users take the following measures to protect against this and other attacks:
Ensure your system is patched with the most current Microsoft system update.
Ensure your antivirus definitions are kept up to date. To remove the manual burden of doing this, most antivirus companies offer an automated update option within their security product.
Trend Micro offers HouseCall, a free virus scanning service, available at http://www.trendmicro-europe.com/housecall. Existing Trend Micro PC-cillin customers can also utilize the network virus wall and vulnerability assessment modules*, which are built into the product, to help keep their system up to date.
* The Network Viruswall (NVW) pattern stops this worm from spreading throughout the network and infecting other machines. A network that is protected by the NVW pattern is assured that any instance or presence of the code at the network layer is immediately filtered out before it causes any damage.
