AOL Germany and eBay Launch Alliance
Extension of US Alliance Integrates eBay into AOL Germany Service
Berlin, Germany (ots) - AOL Germany and eBay announced today that eBay's online trading community is now prominently placed throughout the AOL Germany service, extending the strategic alliance between America Online, Inc. and eBay. Now AOL Germany members will be able to participate in the over 4.5 million auctions currently on eBay's world-wide websites. AOL Germany members will have easy access to eBay through a variety of links and promotions within the AOL Germany Service.
Users of AOL Germany will now find it easier than ever to access eBay and begin trading in the Internet's most vibrant trading community and the largest person-to-person trading community in cyberspace. The launch marks the latest in a series of joint efforts between the two companies that dates back to December 1997, and is the second AOL European service to launch with eBay, further extending the global relationship between AOL, Inc. and eBay; the launch of eBay on the AOL UK service was announced March 1999. There are presently one million regular auctions on eBay's German website.
The four-year strategic marketing alliance between AOL, Inc. and eBay, announced March, 1999, gives eBay prominent presence across the domestic and international AOL family of brands, under which AOL and eBay are creating customized and co-branded sites for AOL's multiple brands. Furthermore, the companies agreed to work together to facilitate eBay's expansion into international markets as highlighted by this expansion. eBay Germany is an exclusive integrated peer-to-peer Anchor Tenant for AOL Germany.
ebay's spokesman Alexander Samwer said "We are very pleased that AOL Germany members will enjoy quick and convenient access to eBay auctions. With eBay auctions promoted in various areas of the AOL UK and AOL Germany services, AOL members worldwide will have easy access to the millions of offerings in thousands of categories on eBay."
Carola Holtermann, Director Marketing & Market Communications AOL
Europe IMG, the advertising and e-commerce unit of AOL Europe, added
"This alliance will enable AOL Germany members to gain even easier
access to the most popular auction destination in cyberspace.
Additionally, AOL Germany members will benefit from eBay's seemless
integration into the service and its access to a top-caliber
e-commerce platform with pan-European focus."
