Softmatic takes important step towards strategic reorganisation

    Softmatic AG (WKN 727 170), which is listed on the German Neuer Markt, has implemented further measures concerning its reorganisation announced at the end of last year. The domestic sales structure for the business unit of industry-specific software for the process industry has been changed to a partner sales structure, and two acquisitions decided on last autumn have been reversed.

    The supplier of standard software for medium-sized enterprises has changed its German sales structure in the business unit process industry from a direct sales strategy to sales through partners, to a large degree. This business unit, which realised sales of roughly DEM 18 million during fiscal 2000, had a significant negative impact on the consolidated results. A far-reaching sales agreement with IncoDev Software-Entwicklung GmbH, Hamburg, Germany, was signed with effect as of February 1, 2001. According to the agreement, IncoDev has the right to market the software SQLblending throughout Germany. At the same time, IncoDev takes over the majority of the existing projects in this business unit. The market for the paints and dyes industry will remain in the hands of RSW-Orga GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of Softmatic. The existing foreign subsidiaries and sales partners will remain in charge of the European business.

    In another restructuring move, the company has decided to reverse the acquisition of two businesses from Ditec Informationssysteme GmbH & Co. KG, Ottobrunn, Germany. Carat Software GmbH (accounting software) and Solution Software GmbH (document management) were to realise total sales of DEM 16 million in fiscal 2001.

    For the management board, these measures constitute a further significant stepping stone towards the strategic reorganisation of the group. Through keeping the profitable software license business and, at the same time, relocating the very personnel intensive project business to qualified sales partners, consolidated earnings will improve significantly. Particularly, the decrease in personnel will improve the cost situation in the short term. The goal is a swift consolidation and strict re-focussing of the group towards becoming a leading software supplier for medium-sized businesses, in which the commercial software units will play a significantly larger role in the future.
