Vienna (ots Ad hoc-Service) - BEKO Ing. P. Kotauczek GmbH, Austria's largest IT service company and a subsidiary of BEKO Holding AG, has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with Sun Microsystems GmbH, the German arm of the world's leading provider of hardware and software solutions for network computing. Effective from the beginning of this year, the new agreement comes just six months after BEKO Holding went public on the Neuer Markt, the high-growth segment of the Frankfurt stock exchange.

The agreement paves the way for close cooperation between the two companies, with BEKO chiefly undertaking consultancy and implementation work on Internet, extranet and intranet-related projects. The new cooperation substantially enlarges BEKO's service spectrum. Paul Michal, CEO of BEKO GmbH, outlines other benefits likely to boost his company's success: "Our clients will profit from the ideal synergy of Sun Microsystems hardware and software packages with brainware from BEKO." Donatus P. Schmid, CEO of Sun Austria, confirms: "Java technologies have become the de-facto standard for application service providers and network-based applications. The combination of BEKO's expertise and implementation skills with Java technologies from Sun Microsystems guarantees the success of the cooperative venture and rapid market penetration for these technologies in Austria."

The cooperation aims to secure practical applications for BEKO and Sun projects involving Java and network computing, and also covers joint development projects. BEKO will concentrate on implementing Java-based applications such as 100% pure Java architectures in Austria and Germany.

BEKO Ing. P. Kotauczek GmbH is Austria's largest independent provider of IT expertise. The company has two divisions: BEKO Die ComputerLeute, providing consultancy, software development and desktop computer/network management, and BEKO Engineering, which offers planning and design services with a full range of outsourcing capabilities. Clients in all sectors with large-scale IT systems rely on BEKO solutions in Austria and abroad. In 1998, BEKO achieved net sales of ATS 916 million with some 884 employees (excluding cooperation partners).

Sun Microsystems is among the world leaders in Internet technologies and is the originator of Java, an object- oriented programming language that has been adopted as the de-facto standard for Internet applications. The company is excellently positioned in the rapidly expanding Internet market. Sun's portfolio encompasses the entire range of net work computing technologies, systems and services that make the Internet and intranets a reliable backbone for business activity. Sun operates in more than 150 countries, has approximately 28,000 employees worldwide and achieved sales of USD 11.5 billion in the past fiscal year.
